Olivia Dunham is a fictional character from the science fiction television series Fringe, which aired on the Fox Broadcasting Company in the United States from 2008 to 2013. The character was created by series' co-creator J. J. Abrams, and is portrayed by actress Anna Torv. Olivia is the series' protagonist, and was introduced as an FBI Special Agent, working for a multi-agency task force of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security called the Fringe Division, dealing with supernatural events that are linked to experimental occurrences. Having grown up with an abusive stepfather, Olivia struggles with the unexpected changes in her life, following her encounter with mentally unstable scientist Walter Bishop, and his son and an eventual love interest for her, Peter Bishop.

DID x Fewture have teamed up to produce and release 12-inch figures from Fringe, and this toy blog post covers the 1/6 scale Anna Torv as Olivia Dunham female figure. The next two posts will cover both Walter Bishop and Peter Bishop 12-inch figures.

Peter Bishop is a fictional character of the Fox television series Fringe. He is portrayed by Joshua Jackson. Peter has been described as a "sort of jack of all trades", and also as a "brilliant person" who possesses "a lot of his father's innate intelligence". He is often the first person to note how insane the proposed experiments sound and tries to find logical explanations often where there are none. When he is first introduced, Peter is callous and cold to Olivia, showing little concern for Agent Scott, but he grows to become more sympathetic as details of his unhappy and often traumatic childhood are revealed. He often maintains a sardonic, cynical demeanor, but has proven time and time again to have a heart of gold. In addition, he has become far more enthusiastic about the work Fringe Division does, and his thought process has realigned itself to suit that.

DID x Fewture have teamed up to produce and release 12-inch figures from Fringe, and this toy blog post covers the 1/6 scale Joshua Jackson as Peter Bishop figure. The next post will cover the Walter Bishop 12-inch figure.

Walter Bishop, Ph.D. is a fictional character on the Fox television series Fringe. He is portrayed by John Noble. Noble also plays Walter's counterpart in the show's parallel universe, who is referred to in the show as Walternate. A mad scientist who has had parts of his brain removed by his partner, William Bell, and who spent more than 17 years in a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane, Walter Bishop can best be described as an eccentric man. Once a brilliant scientist in the realm of fringe science, his trials in life have left him with gaps in his memory and with traits that can best be described as child like. While many parts of his intellect remain intact, he suffers from some degree of agoraphobia and has difficulty properly looking after himself, such that in both timelines he requires either Peter or Astrid to provide him with a basic level of care and supervision.

DID x Fewture have teamed up to produce and release 12-inch figures from Fringe, and this toy blog post covers the 1/6 scale John Noble as Walter Bishop figure. The previous posts covered both Peter Bishop and Olivia Dunham 12-inch figures.

DID x Fewture 1/6 scale Walter Bishop 12-inch figure from "Fringe - Imagine the Possibilities" will come with two authentic head sculpts, new all-era 12-inch figure body with 2 pairs of hands, greatcoat, purplish red cardigan, plaid shirt, striped shirt, brown corduroys, striped suit, lab coat, fedora, necktie, socks, brown shoes, black shoes, cup, one piece of red twisted candy, black figure display stand with "Fringe" nameplate.

You can preorder this from Sideshow Collectibles

Darkseid (pronounced "Darkside") is a fictional character, a supervillain who appears in comic books published by DC Comics. He first appeared in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 (November 1970) and was created by writer-artist Jack Kirby. Darkseid is one of the most powerful and evil characters in the DC Universe. A similar supervillain like Darkseid in the Marvel universe would be Thanos.

The impact Darkseid made when he first appeared before Superman was one of the most important events in the DC universe. This was kept in mind when recreating his large frame. The Darkseid collectible figure is re-imagined by Play Arts Kai craftsmanship and is more substantial and robust compared to previous figures in the Variant series.

Revealing bulging muscles and heavy-duty armor, Darkseid's imposing stature is bound to impress and influence those who see him. The joints allow a very wide range of mobility for various poses. The Darkseid action figure contains a translucent piece on his chest emblem and special paint accents with weathered details that exude his ominous presence. Also including a face piece which recreates energy pulsing from his Omega Effect. With accessories like interchangeable hands and a display stand, fans can recreate and enjoy the world of Darkseid.

You can preorder this from Sideshow Collectibles

"Of course I'm a threat. Why? Did you think for a moment that I wasn't?"

Sideshow Collectibles is proud to present the alluring Emma Frost Premium Format™ Figure. First introduced in Marvel’s acclaimed Dark Phoenix Saga storyline as the White Queen of the elite Hellfire Club, ice-cold Emma Frost began her career as one of the X-men’s hottest adversaries.

Beautifully sculpted in 1:4 scale, Emma Frost coolly assumes her position as the White Queen atop a Hellfire Club themed base, boasting supreme confidence and a quiet mystique. Featuring interchangeable portraits with long and short hairstyles, Emma’s piercing blue eyes reveal even more than her scant attire. Dressed to the nines in her provocative all-white corset, thigh-high boots, and fur-trimmed cape, the drop dead gorgeous White Queen is not to be underestimated...

From her initial appearance as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, Emma Frost appeared as an X-Men villain over the years. Emma Frost first appeared in the famous storyline "The Dark Phoenix Saga", in Uncanny X-Men #129. The character was created by writer Chris Claremont and artist / co-writer John Byrne. Claremont was inspired to create the Hellfire Club after seeing the episode "A Touch of Brimstone" from the television show The Avengers, where spy duo John Steed and Emma Peel infiltrate a criminal, hedonistic, underground society. Emma Frost was specifically inspired by Emma Peel, played by actress Diana Rigg, who famously dons a provocative corset, collar, and boots and becomes the ""Queen of Sin". After The Dark Phoenix saga, Emma Frost frequently appeared in other storylines in Uncanny X-Men and the original volume of the New Mutants alongside her Hellions.

Incoming: Asmus Toys "The Lord of the Rings" 1/6 scale Éowyn in Rohan Armour 12-inch figure

0
0
Éowyn is a fictional character in J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium, who appears in his most famous work, The Lord of the Rings. She is a noblewoman of Rohan who is described as a shieldmaiden. Éowyn is described to be very beautiful; she was tall, slim, pale, and graceful, with long golden hair and grey eyes. In temperament she was idealistic, spirited, brave and high-minded, but very lonely, having sacrificed her own happiness for years to care for her sick uncle and meet the responsibilities of a shield-maiden.

In Peter Jackson's films The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), Éowyn is played by Miranda Otto. This is the character on which Amsus Toys has based their Lord of the Rings 1/6 scale Éowyn 12-inch figure on and if I were still collecting The Lord of the Rings figures, I would probably grab this in a heartbeat. But the increasing prices of everything has put a huge damper on the collecting hobby and the price of this figure is just not justifiable.

In Return of the King, Éowyn disguised herself as a man and under the alias of Dernhelm, travelled with the Riders of Rohan to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields outside the White City of Minas Tirith in Gondor, carrying with her Merry Brandybuck, who had also been ordered to remain behind, on her horse Windfola.

The Witch-king attacked Éowyn with his steed, but she slew it with her sword. He then shattered her shield and broke her shield-arm with his mace, but was distracted by Merry, who stabbed him behind the knee with a sword enchanted with spells against him. Éowyn seized the opportunity to strike the Witch-king with a killing thrust "between crown and mantle". Then as her sword shattered, his withering form collapsed and he vanished with a final cry of anguish.

1/6 scale shattered shield will be included

After the demise of Sauron, Éowyn and Faramir married and settled in Ithilien, of which Faramir was made the ruling Prince by King Elessar (the name with which Aragorn ascended the throne of the Reunited Kingdom). Faramir and Éowyn had at least one son (Elboron), and their grandson was Barahir, who wrote The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen in the Fourth Age.

Check out the Sideshow Collectibles "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)" 1/6 scale Faramir, second son of Denethor 12-inch action figure HERE. Faramir was played by David Wenham who was also Dilios the Spartan and narrator in "300 (2007)". Sideshow Collectibles also released Faramir's elder brother, Boromir from "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring". You can see my review post HERE as well.

Threezero reveals LMS: Last Man Standing 1/6th scale Gabriel Paladin 13.5-inch tall action figure

Threezero has been working for a while now with artist Dan LuVisi to create a Gabriel sixth scale figure based on his graphic novel LMS: Last Man Standing: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter. Threezero has officially announced they would be making figures based on the graphic novel, and as promised they have revealed some details and images of the figure.

Gabriel — last of a genetically engineered breed of supersoldiers known as the Paladin, genetically created and designed to be physically perfect, Gabriel is the closest to a God we’d ever see. Highly intelligent, fast, powerful and not to mention nearly invincible, Gabriel had one purpose, and one only: to help win a war that the humans of earth could not.

Threezero’s take on Gabriel stands about 13.5″ tall and comes with several god-like accessories. He comes with a triple-barreled gatling gun, a katana, a hunting knife, 2 Python semi-automatic pistols, grenades, a killer book, utility bags, a road sign shield, and an American flag. Oh yeah, and he also comes with a static model of a the robotic cat Gizmo.

The images below feature the unpainted prototype of the Gabriel sixth scale figure. Threezero hasn’t announced a pre-order date, price, or other information yet. Stay tuned for future updates.

Here are my August 2014 hauls so far: Original Effect OE Killer Instinct 1/6 scale Righter 13-inch female figure, DAM TOYS (GK#005) Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 scale Diamond 2 "Alger" 12-inch figure, Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" 10.5-inch tall Batman and Deathstroke the Terminator aka Slade Wilson. August is looking really good haha

This is Original Effect OE Killer Instinct 1/6 scale Righter 13-inch female figure, the second figure in the series. She is totally different from the first released figure in that Killer Instinct Sam female figure - see my reviews HERE, HERE and HERE - was all dirty and bare like a car mechanic whereas Righter looks like she came out of a space craft or something sci-fi, with her very cool and sleek uniform and boots. I was drawn to her the moment I saw the preview pictures (posted earlier in my toy blog HERE)

The first non-Spade figure from Dam Toys' Gangsters Kingdom line of 1/6 scale figures is Diamond 2 "Alger". It's not so strange when you consider that Dam Toys started with Spade J when they launched their Gangsters Kingdom series of 12-inch figures and followed up with Spade 2, then Spade 3 and 4. Check out all four of them together in group pictures HERE. Now it's the Diamond family's turn. You can see how the preview pictures look like HERE and come back soon to see the actual in-hand product pictures.

The preview pictures of this Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" 10.5-inch Batman action figure really got me hook, line and sinker (see the pictures HERE). I have never ever bought a Play Arts Kai Square Enix figure until then but the pictures were enough to get me started. I even got the Play Arts Kai Square Enix RoboCop 2014 version 1.0 action figure after pre-ordering this Batman some time ago. Reviews and pictures of the Square Enix RoboCop 2014 version 1.0 can be seen HERE, HERE and HERE

Batman needs a foe to fight with and there's none better than Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Deathstroke the Terminator. This is the Deathstroke who appears in Batman: Arkham Origins video game, voiced by Mark Rolston. He is among the eight assassins hired to kill Batman by the Joker. What more can I say? It's DEATHSTROKE! See the preview pictures HERE

Stay tuned and stay connected :) I'm eager to share what I've got with pictures galore. Be right back.

Review 1: Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman 10.5-inch action figure

0
0
Batman: Arkham Origins is a 2013 action-adventure video game developed by Warner Bros. Games Montréal and released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for Microsoft Windows and the PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360 video game consoles. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it is the successor to the 2011 video game Batman: Arkham City and is the third main installment in the Batman: Arkham series.

The events in Arkham Origins take place about five years before Batman: Arkham Asylum, in midwinter Gotham City. Batman, an experienced crime-fighter in the second year of his career, is not yet the veteran superhero of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Designers aimed to make the younger Batman's outfit look "assembled versus manufactured", pieced together from a number of sources. Holmes said, "[Batman's suit is] not something that was made in a factory. He's taken pieces of tech either he's invented, he's fabricated or things from the Wayne facilities, and he has made this costume out of these pieces."

I don't play video games but when I first saw the preview pictures of Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman action figure, I was excited. Being a long time Batman fan, I always enjoy seeing how different artists tweak the batsuit. Some I like and some I don't: case in point, the Square Enix DC Variant Batman which was too manga and anime-like for me. This was the first Play Arts Kai Square Enix action figure I pre-ordered, even before I got the Play Arts Kai Square Enix RoboCop 2014 version 1.0 action figure which I have already reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE.

I have seen the NECA Batman: Arkham Origins 1/4 scale Action Figure (previewed HERE) and although it's nice, 18 inches is unfortunately just too big for my liking. I like the minute details that can be achieved with 1/6 scale figures and don't really see the need to go into 1/4 scale. Even Hot Toys' venture into that particular scale was purely to compete with EnterBay as they prefer to continually pump out 1/6 scale figures on a regular basis because that's what most people want and are comfortable with.

Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures.
Click on them for bigger and better views.

The inner flap reads: "Batman: Arkham Origins" is the story of the Dark Knight before he became the hero we now call Batman. Evil swarms in Gotham City. Among the various villains that roam the streets, one young man stands against the wicked all by himself. None other than Bruce Wayne, he is clad in an all-black costume and confronts evil, albeit inelegantly. Instead of his typical gallant and controlled demeanor, this Batman is a touch unrefined. However, as he gradually matures, he gets closer to the image of the Batman that we all know and love."

There's also a figure display stand included with assembly instructions as well as instructions on the switching of the various hands and weapons.

Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman is kept in the main tray along with three extra gloved hands plus two weapons, his grapnel gun and batarang.

Here's Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman collectible action figure out of the box. Batman is 10.5 inches (26.5 cm) tall from the soles of his feet to the tip of his ears.

Described as "The Dark Knight emerges to bring order back to a dark world. Clothed in a special body suit and armed with self-engineered high-tech weapons, this young dark hero fights alone as he stands up against the Black Mask and the army of criminals that roam the streets of Gotham City."

Some close-up shots of Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman 10.5-inch action figure. I really like the detailing and the etchings are more pronounced than the NECA "Batman: Arkham Origins" 1/4 scale Action Figure. I also like how they painted Batman. Much better than NECA's version IMHO. My one minor peeve? The crotch area seems a little small with not enough height and makes the belt sit too low when Batman is posed standing. Otherwise he looks great in action poses because the crotch doesn't get in the way. Scroll down to see the pictures of Batman in action poses. More action poses to follow in the NEXT toy blog post.

I really like the sculpting of the head sculpt with the grim and determined facial expression of this Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman. One major issue that stopped me from buying Play Arts Kai Square Enix action figures in the past were the head sculpts. They were always too anime / manga looking... even when they were figures of non-anime / manga related characters. Not so this time around. I think Play Arts Kai did a great job with the sculpting and design of this Batman figure.

Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman's cape is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. It's made up of five different sections: top section of cape goes up and reveals left and right sections. The outer sections are connected to the inner ones via hinges and the inner sections are connected to the Batman figure via a ball joint attached to Batman's back. It doesn't really get in the way of posing Batman though. Check out my NEXT post to see more.

As I mentioned earlier, figure display stand is included with assembly instructions. Here's the assembled Play Arts Kai Square Enix figure display stand. I'll show you how it works in the NEXT post.

Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman's accessories: three extra gloved hands plus two weapons, his grapnel gun and batarang.

Here's the Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman 10.5-inch action figure in a dynamic leaping pose. I was going for the famous Frank Miller "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" jumping down from the sky look. Missing the lightning in the sky backdrop here. As you can see, Square Enix Batman poses rather well. I removed part of the display stand in most of the pictures for more dramatic effect. I couldn't use the display stand that was included with this figure for this pose because the figure was too heavy for the flimsy stand. Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures.

In the picture below, you can see the figure stand I used to achieve this pose. It's similar to the ones that used to be included with Hot Toys MMS figures before they went all fancy with light-up features and unique designs.

Check out MC TOYS 1/6 scale Dark Climbing Kroenen Set - it's really COOL (pun intended)

0
0
MC TOYS ITEM: F-042 1/6 scale Dark Climbing Kroenen Set is a really interesting set. In the Dark Horse Hellboy comics, Karl Ruprecht Kroenen was a relatively unremarkable Nazi SS scientist, whose most distinguishing characteristic was that he always wore a gas mask and protective bodysuit, possibly due to severe obsessive-compulsive disorder and fear of bacteria.

Director Guillermo del Toro created a significantly expanded biography for the character, to appear as a villain in the 2004 film adaptation. Kroenen's portrayal in the Hellboy film is radically different from the comics. Kroenen, who originally played the part of a meek character, who Del Toro describes as someone who is likely to say "Aargh! Don't break the machine!" is here portrayed as a murderous soldier who is inhumanly loyal to Rasputin. In the original script for Hellboy, the young Professor Bruttenholm describes Kroenen as "one of the Reich's top scientists, and head of the Thule Occult Society." In the film release, the line was re-dubbed so that the first phrase was replaced by "Hitler's top assassin."

MC TOYS ITEM: F-042 1/6 scale Dark Climbing Kroenen Set will come with 1/6 scale Kroenen HEAD SCULPT, Black Cap, Neck Gaiter, black Down Hooded Jacket, Shadow Shell Pants, Alpine Gloves, Rocky Mountain High Gaiters, Sabretooth Clip Crampons, TNF SLOT Winter Grip BOOT, Black military mountaineering backpack, Climbing Rope, Climbing Harnesses, Black molle belt, Screwgate Carabiner x 2, Nalgen 1000ml water bottle, Bottle pouch, Carbon Ski Pole x 2, BD Viper Ice Tool x 2, Spinner Leash with Screw Lock, Silver D-ring x2

Come hell or high water, this set is a MUST have because of the many kitbash options with all the cool gear and such. About the 1/6 scale Kroenen head sculpt. What's with that? The last time we saw Kroenen was in the 2004 Hellboy film so this is supposed to be a tenth anniversary figure? Other than the fact that it does go well with the entire getup, this has no relation to the film whatsoever.

Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman 10.5-inch action figure Review II

Check out the latest
and also

Here are more pictures of this recently released Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman 10.5-inch action figure. Having reviewed the box contents and taken pictures of Arkham Origins: Batman in the basic standing pose as well as the famous Frank Miller "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" jumping down from the sky pose, I wanted to share this other Batman pose inspired by the drawings of comic book artist Neal Adams. In some of Neal Adams' drawings of Batman, he has Batman launching forward with the body very close to the ground in a very dynamic way.

I was able to use the figure display stand included with this Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman for this particular pose. Any attempt to use the stand to support Batman in a off the ground pose was futile as the figure is just too heavy for the stand which is why I couldn't use the stand in the previous post where I had Batman with both legs in the air. I like the articulation of this Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman action figure as he poses rather well with the aid of a stand. he probably can do more and I'll definitely be trying that out with the Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Deathstroke the Terminator action figure which I also managed to get. See the toy blog post of my August haul HERE

As mentioned previously, "Batman: Arkham Origins" is a 2013 action-adventure video game that takes place about five years before "Batman: Arkham Asylum", in midwinter Gotham City. Batman, an experienced crime-fighter in the second year of his career, is not yet the veteran superhero of "Arkham Asylum" and "Arkham City".

I really like the look and "feel" of the batsuit. Granted this is not 1/6 scale and batman is not wearing the correct fabric costume but I think the manufacturers managed to achieve the right feel of the costume with plastic molding and sculpting. Hot Toys has previewed pictures of their 1/6th scale "Batman: Arkham City" Batman Collectible Action Figure HERE but no news of this "Arkham Origins" version as yet. For a 10.5 inch action figure, this Batman certainly has a lot of nice detailing and paintwork.

Play Arts Kai Square Enix "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman 10.5-inch action figure comes with a very uniquely crafted cape - check out the revealing pictures HERE - and it seems to work rather well for posing and for effect.

In the pictures below, you can see how the figure display stand works in holding Batman in place. Like I say, not good at all for in-the-air poses because the figure is just too heavy for the stand but it still does serve its purpose in this instance.

The Grapnel Gun (also known as the Grapple Hook or the Grapple Gun) is one of Batman's main gadgets. It is much like the Batclaw, but is not used as a weapon or opening grates, but a mode of transportation, getting the Dark Knight to any high up ground. A lot of Batman's gadgets are based on the Grapnel Gun, such as the REC Gun and the Batclaw.

DC Collectibles "Batman: Arkham Knight" 6.75-inch action figures are looking rather awesome!

The DC Collectibles March 2015 solicits have been released, showcasing Batman: Arkham Knight products, as well as a couple of statues. This product solicitation is for products that are going to be making their way into stores in February / March 2015.

No Batman fan’s collection will be complete without these intricately sculpted action figures based on the highly anticipated "Batman: Arkham Knight" video game from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Rocksteady Studios.

This is a close-up of Arkham Knight, described as a militarized version of Batman, with the "A" logo of the Arkham Asylum facility worn as an emblem on his chest. The 2015 video game introduces the villain Arkham Knight, a character created specifically for the game by Rocksteady, DC Comics CCO and comic-book writer Geoff Johns, and DC co-publisher and comic artist Jim Lee.

"Arkham Knight" features Batman (voiced by Kevin Conroy, who else?), a superhero trained to the peak of human physical and mental perfection and an expert in martial arts. He is aided by his friend police commissioner James Gordon, and Gordon's daughter Barbara, who operates covertly as the superhero Oracle.

The game's main storyline is set one year after that of 2011's Batman: Arkham City and follows Batman, at the peak of his ability, as he confronts the supervillain Scarecrow, who has returned to Gotham City to unite Batman's enemies in a plot to finally kill the Dark Knight.

Scarecrow is looking spookier than ever

Rounding up the gang of four will be Harley Quinn, who first appeared in the "Batman: The Animated Series" episode "Joker's Favor" (episode #08, original air date: September 11, 1992) where she served as a humorous female sidekick to the Joker. She has certainly come into her own since then.

This particular 1/6 scale head sculpt bears a very strong resemblance to Shu Qi, a Taiwanese actress and model. In 2002, Shu Qi appeared in the French action film The Transporter with Jason Statham (check out the 1/6 scale version of Frank Martin in Transporter 3 HERE) and Corey Yuen's So Close.

Preview Kotobukiya Evangelion 3.0 ~ Neo Genesis Evangelion Test Type 01 Kit model kit

A Kotobukiya Japanese import!

Neon Genesis Evangelion continues to be one of the most enduring anime franchises in history with some of the most beloved characters of all time... not least of which are the incredible giant robots known as Evas. The next intricate plastic model kit from the series brings to life the most famous and popular of the Evas known as Evangelion Test Type 01!

A tall, lanky cyborg machine piloted by the Third Child Shinji Ikari, Unit-01 is humanoid with thin limbs, reinforced knees and chest, shoulder extensions, and its iconic horned head. The model kit is comprised of over 400 parts pre-colored in the Eva’s traditional black, purple, and green color scheme so no painting is required. It also has a staggering 60 points of articulation for extreme poseability, and you can recreate just about any of your favorite scenes with tons of extra parts and accessories like the 01’s second set of arms, multiple hands, energy effects and halos, Spears, and more! Sculpted by Yuichi Kuwamura and Shohei Chiba, Test Type 01 stands 7 ½ inches tall (1/400 scale). Display it by itself or with other Evangelion-inspired plastic model kits from Kotobukiya!

This looks good! Evangelion is an apocalyptic anime in the mecha genre. The series is set in a futuristic Tokyo, fifteen years after a worldwide cataclysm. The main story centers around Shinji, a teenage boy who is recruited by the shadowy organization NERV to pilot a giant bio-machine called an Evangelion in combat against monstrous beings known as Angels. Evangelion is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed anime television series of the 1990s. Considered both a critique and deconstruction of the mecha genre, the series has become a cultural icon and has resulted in the artistic and technical revival of the anime industry.

It seems like everyone's doing 12-inch female figures these days. Just hot off previewing the next generation Phicen Limited 1/6 Super-Flexible Female Seamless Body with Stainless Steel Skeleton (2 versions - Asian and Caucasian) in the previous post HERE, we get news that Very Cool Toys will also be releasing a pair of female figures. Very Cool's release will be 12-inch VC Caucasian Skin Tone Large-Bust Female Body with 1/6 scale female head sculpt with rooted hair but come with two uniform / outfit options - CP Camouflage and / or black.

Very Cool VCF-2021B 1/6 scale Female Shooter 12-inch figure (Black outfit version) will come with Female Rooted Hair Head Sculpt, VC Caucasian Skin Tone Large-Bust Female Body, T-Shirt, Bra-Top, Tactical Pants, Training Cap, Scarf, Belt, Pair of Military Boots, Pistol holster, Frag Grenade, GP Pouch, Backpack, Fist-aid Pouch, Watch, GPS, P226 Pistol, Pistol Magazine x 2, MK18 Rifle (For VCF-2021B: Black) with ACOG, M4 Rifle Magazine, Gloved Hand: 3 pieces, Pair of Relaxed Hands, Pair of Fist Hands, Pair of trigger Hands, pair of grasping hands.

The 1/6 scale head sculpt does bear a certain resemblance to Milla Jovovich, the female action heroine in all the "Resident Evil" films, not to mention "Ultraviolet" and many more, most memorable for me was her role as Leeloo in "The Fifth Element" and her first film role back in 1997.

Besides Milla Jovovich, one of the other female actors who are equally adept at playing action heroines would be Jennifer Garner, wife of the new Batman (Ben Affleck) and who played Special Agent Janet Mayes in "The Kingdom", Elektra in "Daredevil" where she met Affleck who played the Man Without Fear, and as CIA officer Sydney Bristow in the ABC thriller drama series Alias, which aired for five seasons from 2001 to 2006. Pre-order “To the BATMOBILE” Batman 1/6 Maquette Diorama by Tweeterhead / Sideshow

You can preorder this from Sideshow Collectibles

Sideshow Collectibles and Tweeterhead are excited to present the "To the BATMOBILE" Batman Maquette Diorama, based on the classic television show. Artists at Tweeterhead painstakingly researched the Batman costume to ensure 100% accuracy to the original suit. This is supposed to be an extremely limited production and will include a special certificate autographed by Adam West.

Measuring 12.5 inches tall, Batman comes on a base that includes half of the Bat Computer. Soon to follow, the Robin Maquette (coming later this year) will include the second half of the Bat Computer to complete the Bat cave Diorama!

This Batman is from the 1960s American live action television series, based on the DC comic book character of the same name. It starred Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin — two crime-fighting heroes who defend Gotham City. It aired on the ABC network for three seasons from January 12, 1966 to March 14, 1968. The show was aired twice weekly for its first two seasons and weekly for the third, with a total of 120 episodes produced during its run. The program was known for its upbeat theme music and camp moral lessons, which included championing the importance of using seat belts, doing homework, eating vegetables and drinking milk among children.

Many sports, music, and media personalities, and a number of Hollywood actors, looked forward to and enjoyed their appearances as villains on the Batman show. They were generally allowed to overact and enjoy themselves on a high-rated television series, guaranteeing them considerable exposure (and thus boosting their careers).

Starting in 1966, an enormous amount of Batman merchandise was manufactured and marketed to cash-in on the TV show's vast popularity. This includes trading cards, scale model kits of the Batmobile, coloring books, and board games. Items from this particular era have gained substantial collector appeal with their remarkable variety, scarcity, and style. Warner Bros. acquired merchandising rights to the series in 2012,[1] and in 2013 Mattel released an action figure line based on the television series. To date only a single series of figures have been produced: Batman, the Riddler, the Joker, the Penguin, Catwoman and exclusive to a boxset Robin. In 2013, Hong Kong based entertainment collectible manufacturer Hot Toys, produced 1/6 scale versions of West's Batman and Ward's Robin.

Adam West starred as Bruce Wayne / Batman: a millionaire whose parents were murdered by criminals, he now secretly uses his vast fortune to fight crime as Batman. Producer William Dozier cast Adam West in the role after seeing him perform as the James Bond-like spy Captain Q in a Nestlé Quik television ad.

Review 1: Hot Toys MMS217 The Lone Ranger: 1/6th Johnny Depp as Tonto Collectible Figure

This was part of my June haul :) see my post HERE

You can order this from Sideshow Collectibles

The Lone Ranger is a 2013 American action western film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films and directed by Gore Verbinski. Based on the radio series of the same name, the film stars Johnny Depp as Tonto, the narrator of the events, and Armie Hammer as John Reid (The Lone Ranger). It relates Tonto's memories of the duo's earliest efforts to subdue the immoral actions of the corrupt and bring justice in the American Old West. It is the first theatrical film featuring the Lone Ranger and Tonto characters in more than 32 years.

It was a box office bomb! Critics praised the acting performances, western style, but criticized the long length and lack of originality. Charlie McCollum of the San Jose Mercury News wrote, "In the end, The Lone Ranger is one hot mess — an entertaining one, to be sure, but still a mess."

That aside, we have Johnny Depp as Tonto. He seems to pop up as part of Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series collectible figure rather often. Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark / Iron Man have also been produced a lot of times by Hot Toys but that's always as Tony Stark / Iron Man (one of Hot Toys' cash cow). Johnny Depp has appeared as different characters each time - as Captain Jack Sparrow (three times), as Edward Scissorhands, as Sweeney Todd, and now as Tonto. Medicom Toys has also released 1/6 scale versions of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, Ichabod Crane, Sweeney Todd and Mad Hatter.

Hot Toys MMS217 (Movie Masterpiece Series) The Lone Ranger: 1/6th scale Tonto Collectible Figure box packaging - front and back.

Hot Toys MMS217 (Movie Masterpiece Series) The Lone Ranger: 1/6th scale Tonto Collectible Figure specially features: Authentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Johnny Depp as Tonto head sculpt with real-like facial expression, detailed wrinkles, face paint and gesture as seen in The Lone Ranger. Approximately 30 cm tall TrueType body with over 30 points of articulation and tattoos. Seven (7) pieces of interchangeable palms including: One (1) pair of fists, One (1) pair of relaxed palms, One (1) pair of weapon holding palms, One (1) left open palm for holding pocket watch.

Weapons: One (1) dagger with sheath, Two (2) axes, One (1) pistol

Accessories: Two (2) pocket watches

Pouch and tribal decorations, dagger with sheath

One (1) brown and white tribal armband, One (1) white and bronze-colored bracelet, One (1) bronze-colored bracelet

Figure display stand with Tonto nameplate and movie logo

Hot Toys MMS217 (Movie Masterpiece Series) The Lone Ranger: 1/6th scale Tonto Collectible Figure Instruction Sheet

12-inch Tonto's costume is made up of One (1) black and bronze-colored tribal necklace,  One (1) leather-like black belt, One (1) multi-colored belt, One (1) orange-colored belt, One (1) pair of brown pants with pouch and tribal decorations, One (1) pair of brown moccasins.

Johnny Depp's Tonto character wears black-and-white face paint and a deceased crow on his head. According to Depp, the inspiration for the costume was a painting entitled I Am Crow by Kirby Sattler. This is certainly a Tonto I've never seen before.

Johnny Depp has a knack for playing weird and quirky characters - Edward Scissorhands, Ichabod Crane (Sleepy Hollow), Sheldon Sands (Once Upon a Time in Mexico), Willy Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Sweeney Todd (Demon Barber of Fleet Street), Mad Hatter (Alice in Wonderland) - but it was his performance as the suave but shambling pirate Captain Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" that was a major success. Looks like The Lone Ranger is a dud.

So this will probably be the only 1/6th scale figure from The Lone Ranger film as I doubt Hot Toys will proceed to produce The Lone Ranger 12-inch figure even though they did preview him at some toy fairs. Anyway, I'm glad they started out with Tonto first as I was looking forward to this, being a Johnny Depp fan.

Too bad Armie Hammer's Lone Ranger was nothing like Clayton Moore's version of the masked vigilante. That would have done The Lone Ranger some justice. Instead we got a bumbling clownish guy trying to find his purpose in life after being raised from the dead and taking instructions from a Native American who's seeking vengeance. I was surprised when I first found out that Johnny Depp was playing Tonto because surely he'll take the limelight away from The Lone Ranger. In the past, Tonto has always been a sidekick but one just cannot imagine Depp being one.

Hot Toys obviously went for the slim body when putting this 1/6th scale Johnny Depp as Tonto Collectible Figure together. After all, Depp was never a muscular figure and you wouldn't picture him with a body like the ROCK's (check out the 12-inch muscular body Hot Toys used for 1/6 scale Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock Collectible Figure HERE. It even comes with tattoos)
