This was part of my June 2016 haul (see the toy blog post HERE)

I got the Hot Toys MMS080 Iron Man Mark 1 and the MMS075 Mark III from the first Iron Man movie; and picked up MMS123 Mark IV and MMS121 War Machine from the second Iron Man film. There were just too many Iron Man suits in Iron Man 3 and since I don't own a bank, I gave them all a miss. Plus the main armor in Marvel’s Iron Man 3, the Mark XLII had too much gold on him. Growing up reading Iron Man from Marvel Comics, Iron Man in my mind was always more red than yellow or gold and Mark XLII just had too much gold. I did pick up Hot Toys "Iron Man 3" 1/6th scale Die-cast Iron Patriot 12-inch Collectible Action Figure because it was "Iron Captain America".

I decided to get most of the 1/6th scale figures Hot Toys was producing for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" because I felt that Hot Toys has finally come to a place where their standards have reached the highest level. While the sculpting of the heads for the first Avengers film were great, the standards had been raised by the second Avengers film so I felt it was the best time to assemble my Avengers. And you cannot have the Avengers without including Iron Man. And Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series Diecast MMS300-D11 Avengers: Age of Ultron: 1/6th scale Mark XLV Collectible Figure fits the bill nicely.

The movie-accurate Iron Man Mark XLV Collectible Figure is highly detailed and sophisticatedly crafted based on the image of the armor in the Marvel Studios "Avengers: Age of Ultron" film featuring a meticulously sculpted armored body, specially applied metallic red, gold and silver colored paint with weathered effects, LED light-up Arc Reactor with hexagonal-shaped indent on chest, and a specially designed diorama base with a detachable damaged Ultron Sentry (Prime)! There's no doubt about it: Hot Toys truly delivers high quality figures that are value-for-money and the engineering that goes into making them simply boggles the mind. They are made by people who love 12-inch figures and love what they do and it shows :)

The design of the Mark XLV armor is a lot more intricate and complicated than the earlier Iron Man armor suits. If you were to compare Iron Man Mark III with Mark XLV, you'll see that this latest armor suit is a lot more advance looking with a lot more details than the older version.

Hot Toys MMS300-D11 Movie Masterpiece Series Die-cast "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th scale Iron Man Mark XLV Collectible Figure comes in a very large box. The box measures 9.4-inch (24cm) L x 7.5-inch (19cm) W x 16-inch (41cm) H and is also quite heavy because a lot of the contents are die-cast. The design is similar with all Hot Toys die-cast figures - see the MMS195-D01 Iron Patriot collectible figure reviewed HERE as well as the Hot Toys MMS202-D04 1/6th scale Die-cast RoboCop Collectible Figure reviewed HERE.

Inside the box lying in its foam tray is the die-cast 1/6th scale Iron Man Mark XLV Collectible Figure. Below the box is the accessories tray which contains a very nicely crafted diorama base with a detachable damaged Ultron Sentry (Prime) plus the rest of the accessories, including batteries packed separately. It's nice to know Hot Toys acknowledged their mistake of putting the batteries inside their figures in the past (see my toy blog post "Hot Toy Collecting Tip #1: Remove ALL Batteries!"HERE) and now ship all figures with batteries removed.

This is Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series Diecast MMS300-D11 "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th scale Iron Man Mark XLV Collectible Figure out of the box. The Iron Man Mark XLV Collectible Figure specially features: Authentic and detailed likeness of Mark XLV as seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It is approximately 33 cm tall with over 30 points of articulations, and contains die-cast material. Because of the metal die-cast components, the figure is hefty and feels really sold!

Special features on armor include: Metallic red, gold and silver colored painting on armor with weathered effects, LED light-up eyes (white light, battery operated), LED-lighted circle-shaped Arc Reactor with hexagonal-shaped indent on chest (white light, battery operated), One interchangeable battle damaged chest armor, One (1) pair of forearm laser weapons (hidden until deployed), Four (4) pairs of interchangeable palms including: One (1) pair of palms with articulated fingers and light-up repulsors (white light, battery operated), One (1) pair of fists, One (1) pair of battle palms with light-up repulsor (white light, battery operated), One (1) pair of palms with real-like thrust fire effect. Fully deployed air flaps at back of the armor. Articulations on waist armor which allow flexible movement.

Scroll down to see the close-up pictures taken of this Hot Toys MMS300-D11 Movie Masterpiece Series Die-cast "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th scale Iron Man Mark XLV Collectible Figure. I am in favor of Hot Toys producing a weathered armor suit as it has the used look which makes it look more realistic rather than the clean glossy look which makes it look like it's meant only for the showroom. Plus a clean look is harder to maintain whereas with a weathered look, the figure can be excused if it has a few more dinks or paint chips. I really dig the armor with more red paint as it brings Iron Man back to his roots. The predominantly gold armor of Mark XLII just didn't grow on me and I didn't fancy it.

Hot Toys MMS300-D11 Movie Masterpiece Series Die-cast "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th scale Iron Man Mark XLV 33cm Tall Collectible Figure User Guide comes in a booklet form with many pages of instructions for things like putting in the batteries as well as how to activate the parts which will make the figure more flexible. There are additional articulations on the waist, shoulder, arms, hip, legs and feet which allow the figure to bend more than it should. However, all these will not allow the figure to produce the superhero landing pose. I tried it with Iron Patriot (see the review post HERE) and this figure's joints are designed similar to it. Most 12-inch figures cannot achieve the superhero landing pose except the Phicen Limited 1:6 scale Super-Flexible 12-inch Male Seamless Body - check out the post HERE. If you see how the body has to twist and bend to achieve the pose, you will understand why a suit of armor is not designed to pose in that manner. It's all CGI, folks. The sooner we accept that and move on, the better :)

Hot Toys "Avengers: Age of Ultron" Iron Man Mark XLV 12-inch (33cm) Tall Collectible Figure 1/6th scale accessories: interchangeable battle damaged chest armor, three pairs of interchangeable palms including: one pair of palms with articulated fingers and light-up repulsors (white light, battery operated), one pair of battle palms with light-up repulsor (white light, battery operated), one pair of palms with real-like thrust fire effect. Figure comes with one pair of fists.

Check out the turnaround views of the damaged Ultron Sentry (Prime). Its head can be removed.

Specially designed diorama figure base. This base is heavier than usual as it is designed to hold the weight of the die-cast Mark XLV figure when it is posed above the base using the figure stand included.
