In Ridley Scott‘s Blade Runner, the year was 2019 and the future is set in a dystopian Los Angeles. Besides the story and Harrison Ford, it was also memorable for the flying cars or 'Spinners'. Spinner is a nickname for the type of Police flying car in Blade Runner that can drive as a ground car, take off vertically, hover and cruise using jet propulsion much like Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft today.
The film Back to the Future Part II paid homage to the Spinner from Blade Runner in that a repainted spinner can be seen parked in a driveway. A spinner car also rests on the Hill Valley Street during the hoverboard chase.
Medicom Toys released this Back to the Future Part II future car as a vehicle for their Kubrick line of mini figures and called it a Miracle Action Vehicle. The Spinner is missing the blinking police lights, blue police colours and markings but has turning wheels which retract for flight-mode and winged doors that opened upwards. The glass bubble cockpit allows the occupants to look up, forward & rear as well as downwards when it is in flight.
