continued from earlier post...

Britain's SAS are one of the world's premier Special Forces and have provided many countries with specialist training in both standard soldiering techniques and those of Counter Revolutionary Warfare or CRW. Even the Royal Hong Kong Police SDU (Special Duties Unit) were trained by the SAS, before the handover back to China in 1997. Check out the previously posted toy blog posts of the SDU here.

This was the standard Counter Revolutionary Warfare outfit developed by the Special Air Service (SAS) as part of the uniform for the special projects team. The special projects team is the official name for the Special Air Service anti–hijacking counter–terrorism team. It is trained in Close Quarter Battle (CQB) and sniper techniques and specializes in hostage rescue in buildings or on public transport. The team was formed in 1975 after Prime Minister Edward Heath asked the Ministry of Defence to prepare for any possible terrorist attack similar to the massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics and ordered that the SAS Counter Revolutionary Warfare (CRW) wing be raised.

MC Toys has quite faithfully produced (replicated) the SAS CRW trooper of 1987-2000 in 1/6 scale and I must say, looking at this figure in pictures, you can be forgiven for mistaking this figure as a 1:1 scale SAS CRW trooper.

MC Toys M-035 1/6 scale SAS CRW (1987-2000) 12-inch action figure comes with 1/6 scale Real Like Head sculpt (looks a lot like Luke Evans who played Owen Shaw: A former Special Air Service soldier leading a heist gang in the 2013 American action film "Fast & Furious 6"– see the earlier post), 12-inch Action Figure Body, Gas Mask, Gas Mask Cover, Bulletproof Vest, Pigskin Vest, Aircrew Knife, Radio with PTT and Mic, Abseil Harness, 8 Type Drop Ring, D Ring x 2, Leather Belt, Leather Pistol Holster, Leather Triple Magazine Carrier, Leather 9mm Magazine Carrier, Leather Boots, Pilot's Gloves, Flashbang Grenade x 2, H&K MP5A3 SMG with Green Sling, 4 SMG Magazines, Sig Sauer P226 Pistol, 3 pistol Magazines, Blue Piece Suit, Shotgun bullets red x 10, Shotgun bullets blue x 10, Cable Ties x 2.

In kitting this MC Toys M-035 1/6 scale SAS CRW (1987-2000) 12-inch action figure, I decided to remove the Abseil Harness (since he didn't come with any rope to abseil with anyway), the Gas Mask Cover (I much prefer the hood of his blue Nomex coverall) and I only put in five red shotgun shells (no shotgun was included with this set even though twenty shotgun shells are given). Sometimes less is more and that's the way I like my SAS CRW (1987-2000) 12-inch figure ;p

The 1/6 scale SF10 Gas Mask (with removable filter) comes with fish-eye lens which can pop out rather easily (so be careful when handling the mask). The Aircrew Release Knife was designed to act as a harness release knife, used to cut seat or parachute harness straps in the event of crash or other emergency. The SAS troopers stitch this item to their assault vest for use in case of snagging of Abseil (Rappel) lines, which actually happened during the 1980 Iranian Embassy raid which they have become so famous for.

Close-up picture / view of the 1/6 scale H&K MP5A3 SMG. The Heckler & Koch MP5 (from German: Maschinenpistole 5, "machine pistol model 5") is a 9mm submachine gun of German design, and is one of the most widely used submachine guns in the world, having been adopted by 40 nations and numerous military, law enforcement, intelligence, and security organizations.

The cable ties are stored at the back of the SAS trooper's pigskin suede assault vest. Cable Ties are used to restrain prisoners quickly without the need for cumbersome handcuffs. The SAS' preferred side-arm is the Sig Sauer P226 Pistol, here seen holstered in a drop-down pistol holster.

The Radio is stored in a pouch on his assault vest with PTT (Push-To-Talk) and throat Microphone which is hidden under the coverall that has an extra flap on the neck region for full protection. Hot Toys did release a stunning 1/6 scale Avon SF10 Respirator with AN-PVS17 NVD and CT100E Ear Defender headset connected to walkie-talkie with throat microphone back when they were producing and releasing 12-inch military figures (check out my toy blog post HERE for the pictures)

As mentioned earlier, I only chose to load this SAS CRW trooper with five red shotgun shells / cartridges even though he came with ten red ones and ten light blue shotgun shells (see my part 1 review HERE). Apparently different color shells contain different loads and powder amounts. That's why there are red and blue shotgun shells. The 1/6 scale gloves are quite impossible to put on fixed posed hands which came with this figure. I switched them for bendy / flexible hands which are much easier to put the gloves on.

The classic drop-down leather MP5 triple-magazine pouch with three extra magazines plus double-pistol magazine pouch holding two pistol magazines. The design is rather simple but has proven to be very effective and practical. And don't forget to check out those awesome 1/6 scale leather boots (more pictures posted in the earlier review HERE).

NEXT: A gathering of 1/6 scale SAS CRW troopers from the various different manufacturers. How do they stack up? You'll just have to see for yourselves
