Big Major HAUL before 2013 Chinese New Year

$

This is one of my biggest haul ever and it happened just before the Chinese New Year holidays which means I'll have plenty to do during the short break that's coming up :) I don't pose my hauls often but this time round, it's really quite a lot and I'm quite happy to share it.

Hauls are where I share what I've just gotten or what has just been recently released and these are the stuff that has just come out and should be hitting stores everywhere if they haven't already ;p This is just me documenting what I've gotten for myself and most of the time, the items aren't really a surprise since I've been updating and covering them in my toy blog posts. Scroll down to see the individual items I've gotten my hands on this time round :) It feels like Christmas all over again haha

The picture below shows the packaging for the ZCWO "A better tomorrow" 1/6 scale Mark Lee 12-inch collectable action figure by ZC World. I've covered this figure previously with preview pictures posted HERE but nothing beats having the figure in hand. This box is BIG and no wonder - it contains the display stand and everything else to create a mini diorama scene.

Next up: DAM Toys 1/6 scale USMC in the Persian Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch "Jarhead" Figure which was previewed HERE. DAM Toys has been making inroads into the 1/6 scale 12-inch figure collector's market and they are coming in hard and fast now. And it looks like they are a company to be reckoned with because they have been branching out and making their presence felt with some very nice releases and this happens to be one of them. Watch out for DAM in 2013!

DID is not far behind. Actually DID has been around for the longest time and has mostly concentrated on World War 2 (WWII) 1/6 scale military figures which I have been collecting a lot less of these days. I picked this 12-inch United States Marine Corps Ceremonial Guard "Tony" boxed set because I always have a thing for ceremonial figures and this is the BEST USMC in Dress Blues that I've ever come across so this was a definite buy for me. You can view the preview pictures HERE

Still soldiering on of course is Soldier Story. These three companies seem to be the big three right now in the area of 1/6 scale 12-inch military figures with Soldier Story concentrating on modern military figures and this Soldier Story 1/6 scale FBI CIRG (Critical Incident Response Group) 12-inch Figure is a MUST have for me. Check out their preview pictures HERE to see the awesome details plus the Jeremy Renner head sculpt.

VTS managed to put out some surprises of their own with two very interesting figures that caught many people / collectors by surprise ;p First there was the VTS (Virtual ToyS) 1/6 scale Zombie Killer "Tallahassee" 12-inch action figure (already reviewed earlier in my toy blog HERE and HERE) and then there's this: VTS VM-007 1/6th Scale Dark Soldier 12-inch Figure aka Karl Urban as John Grimm from the 2005 sci-fi horror film "DOOM" which also starred Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (prototype pictures can be seen HERE)

What can I say? Brother Production is still producing 12-inch figures and this latest release is the 1/6 scale "Thief" figure, obviously inspired by Robert De Niro's character Neil McCauley from the 1995 crime film "HEAT" written and directed by Michael Mann and which also starred Al Pacino and Val Kilmer. With so many companies offering so many options and choices, it's a great time to be a 12-inch figure collector :)

And I'm not even done yet haha ZCWO is also venturing into uniform sets and these two are every highly anticipated by me. ZC World ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol.08 1/6 scale Men's Fashion is designed and tailored for none other than Gotham City Police Department Commissioner James "Jim" Gordon (preview pictures HERE) and ZCWO Mens Hommes MH010 1/6 U.S. Air Force Officer Service Dress Uniform is meant for 12-inch Rhodes as in Lt. Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes from the Iron Man comics and movies (see pictures HERE)

My first two Phicen female figures (pale skin with middle breast size and tan skin with large breast size). Not really into female figures and don't actually own a lot of them but some of the recent female figure sets have caught my attention and I needed these to complete the look. I'm certainly excited to put them together.

Last but certainly not least, some clothing sets from Asmus Toys. One is the Asmus Toys 1/6th scale Detective Somerset suit set for 12-inch figures (NOT for Jim Gordon this time) and the other is Asmus Toys Avengers' Tony Costume set. The set includes: A printed T-Shirt with decorative sleeves, deep blue trousers, a pair of socks, a pair of black shoes and a pair of metal MK VII bracelet (which is sorely missing with MC Toys offering). You can see both sets previewed earlier in my post "Time to dress up Tony Stark in his trademark 1/6 scale civilian outfit as seen in The Avengers" HERE. The two Flirty Girl sets contain the female head and outfit intended for use with the Phicen female bodies mentioned above ;p

A little backstory:
He is the key to cloning, he is seeking for his path... his name is Rei.

In the story line, Rei, the main character, is the first clone experiment and he is the only clone soldier survived after the civil war with his own kind. He then became the key for cloning, and was hunted for such reason.

This is the 12-inch clone prototype REI figure. For more information and pre-orders, check out Ax2 Studio website HERE. Scroll down to see more pictures of this exciting new product! What a tease :)

I'm loving everything about this figure from the get-go. The cut of the outfit, the 1/6 scale head sculpt, the gloved hands and shoes - everything says designer style and this certainly looks like it's going to be a great product / figure. I can't wait to see more pictures.

Stay tuned and watch this space as I post more pictures when I get them ;p

Happy Chinese New Year to one and all in the year of the snake from Night Viper Transformer

$
0
0
It's the Chinese New Year today and this is also the Year of the Snake so what a better way to wish everyone a Happy Lunar New Year than with a post on snakes about snakes or a snake toy since this is a toy blog after all

This is the Hasbro Transformers Beast Machines Heroic Maximal Night Viper Cobra toy action figure that was released in the year 2000. Night Viper is a Maximal from the Beast Machines portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Night Viper is a Recon Specialist and according to the description on the card which he came in, Night Viper is the stealthiest Maximal. His tail acts as a repulsor rocket, providing supersonic speed. Internal radar scramblers allow him to move virtually unseen in both robot and beast mode. His robot mode features frictionless surface, increasing his speed and making him an extremely hard target. Armor alloys deflect most energy pulses. Recycles enemy fire into plasma venom blasts that short circuit Vehicon circuitry.

Night Viper's motto is "I'm very good at what I do - maybe too good!"

Night Viper transforms into a midnight blue, blue-gray, red, and yellow technorganic cobra. His snake-mode head is spring-loaded; pressing on the clear-yellow part of the hood directly behind it launches it forward slightly, opening his jaws to bite. The sides of his hood form arm-mounted shields in robot mode, the right shield being armed with a flip-out scythe blade. His left shield contains his spark crystal.

Because this Transformer toy is part of the Beast Machines line of figures, the animal looks pretty metallic in keep in sync with all the animals / beasts in the series. The snake head and the torso look pretty cool although you can make out the visible hands. The tail is formed from the legs of the robot. It starts on one foot and ends on the other. The legs / tail are multi-jointed so that you can articulate them to make it look more like a snake.

The Cobra is any of various species of venomous snakes usually belonging to the family Elapidae, most of which can expand their neck ribs to form a widened hood. In this toy Transformers version, the latch on the left side of the hood hides the spark crystal while the right hood hides his weapon which is a yellow, transparent scythe which Night Viper uses in robot mode.

It's hard to imagine that a snake / cobra would be a heroic maximal. Snakes have always been associated with evil since the devil disguised himself as a snake to deceive Eve and caused the fall of Man in the garden of Eden. The serpent alas has always had a bad reputation.

Phrases like "You snake in the grass", "slimy like a snake", "double-headed snake", "never trust a snake", "speaks with forked tongue" and "having a hissy fit" all veer towards the venomous.

Even in local terms, "chiak chua" (eat snake) is to skive, to "sell snake oil" is to be smarmy and glib. When we were young, the childhood game of "Snakes and Ladders" sealed the slithering creature's fate by associating it with the downward spiral.

Even in movies, snakes were always bad news - think Indiana Jones and Samuel L. Jackson's tirade in the B-movie "Snakes on a plane". In mythology, snakes gave Medusa bad hair days everyday ;p

But some nice events did come out of the Snake year. Most importantly, Singapore was born in the Year of the Snake in 1965 and so was yours truly :)

Night Viper's mouth / jaws close when the head is retracted or pushed back. Pressing the easily visible, hard-to-miss yellow button above the head releases the head which snaps forward, opening its jaws again to simulate the cobra biting action.

Hasbro Transformers Beast Machines Heroic Maximal Night Viper Cobra toy action figure in robot mode seems rather fragile due to the thin arms and the multi-jointed legs.

This was probably one of the last few toys that my eldest son bought as a child back in 2000. He has since outgrown them (he will be 19 years old this year) but we have never felt the need to throw all of their toys away as most of them are still in very good condition and I think when they are all grown up, they'll look back at these with some nostalgia.

There are pictures of most of the Beast Wars Transformers that he had collected (over 45 beasts featured) in my earlier post HERE as well as pictures of some of his other toys under the label "Blast from the Past".

Have a Happy Chinese New Year everyone :) Huat Ah!!!

Review VTS 1/6th Scale Dark Soldier 12" Figure or Karl Urban as John "Reaper" Grimm in Doom

$

"Doom" is a 2005 action and horror film written by David Callaham and Wesley Strick and directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak. It is loosely based on the video game series of the same name created by id Software. The film follows a group of Rapid Response Tactical Squad (RRTS) Marines called on an emergency mission to Mars in the year 2046 on a rescue and retrieval mission after communications with The Olduvai Research Facility on Mars ceased hours earlier. The Marines soon battle a legion of demonic monsters plaguing the facility.

A movie about Space Marines sent to investigate strange events at a research facility on a distant planet but find themselves at the mercy of genetically enhanced killing machines. Sounds like I've heard this one before? The 1996 "Aliens" science fiction action film directed by James Cameron and starring Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Henn, Michael Biehn, Lance Henriksen, William Hope, and Bill Paxton was about a unit of Colonial Marines sent to a distant planet after all communication with the terraforming colony had suddenly ceased, only to encounter aliens of the creepy kind. Familiar territory isn't it?

This is the recently released VTS (Virtual ToyS) VM-007 1/6th scale Dark Soldier 12-inch Figure which gets its inspiration from the RRTS Marines as seen in the 2005 "Doom" sci-fi film. The head sculpt bears a strong resemblance to actor Karl Urban who played Staff Sergeant John "Reaper" Grimm in the movie. Any likeness is purely coincidental ;p Karl-Heinz Urban (born 1972) is a New Zealand actor best known for playing Éomer in the second and third installments of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He is also known for playing Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, Caesar on Xena: Warrior Princess, Vaako in The Chronicles of Riddick and Judge Dredd in the 2012 film Dredd.

This is my second VTS figure in a box after the earlier reviewed VTS (Virtual ToyS) 1/6 scale Zombie Killer or Woody Harrelson as "Tallahassee" 12-inch action figure HERE and HERE. Before this, I had only bought VTS uniform / outfit sets that came with just a 1/6 scale head sculpt but no 12-inch figure body. The box cover is in red with craters on a planet surface (Mars maybe?) and a large skull with the title "Dark Soldier, Kill 'em all" on it. On the back of the box is a listing of the items to be found inside.

The VTS Dark Soldier 12-inch Figure lies in the top main tray snugly fitted in a foam layer wearing his 1/6 scale combat suit and combat boots.

Underneath the top layer is the accessories tray containing his 1/6 scale sci-fi assault rifle with rifle sling, radio communications headset (blink and you might miss it), universal pouch (large), universal pouch (small), magazine pouch, ammo pouch, walkie-talkie radio, knee pads (one pair), elbow pads (one pair), half-finger tactical gloves (one pair), combat knife with scabbard, tactical vest, tactical belt, pistol, drop-leg holster

Here are the above items laid out for you to see. I actually forgot the radio communications headset when I took this picture. Some of the marines including Mac (Yao Chin), Duke (Razaaq Adoti) and Reaper (Karl Urban) use H&K USP handguns with stainless-steel barrels as their sidearms.

The futuristic assault rifle used in the film is a visually modified Heckler & Koch G36 rifle carried by Sarge (Dwayne Johnson), Reaper (Karl Urban), Portman (Richard Brake) and Duke (Razaaq Adoti). Mac (Yao Chin) also carries what appears to be one of these rifles with some sort of grenade launcher attachment. According to the ammo counters, the beefed-up box magazines are supposed to hold 65 rounds.

Another picture of the 1/6 scale futuristic assault rifle (showing both sides) included in this VTS 1/6th Scale Dark Soldier 12" Figure and seen in the film "Doom". The magazine is removable but only one is included.

Rapid Response Tactical Squad (RRTS) Marines' walkie-talkie radio, combat knife with scabbard

Here's the VTS Dark Soldier 12-inch Figure with 1/6 head sculpt bearing the likeness of Karl Urban as John "Reaper" Grimm in "Doom" wearing his combat suit, half-finger tactical gloves and boots

Under the combat suit, he actually has a black long sleeve T-shirt

and black molded combat boots

VTS 1/6 Dark Soldier 12" Figure or Karl Urban as SSGgt John "Reaper" Grimm in Doom Review 2

continued from previous post...

Having reviewed the box packaging and contents in the previous post, here's VTS 1/6th scale Dark Soldier 12-inch Figure (which seems to be very much inspired by Karl Urban as John "Reaper" Grimm in the 2005 sci-fi horror film "Doom" based loosely on the video game series of the same name) all suited and geared up and ready for some hard-hitting action :)

I always like to see how different movie producers / directors portray soldiers fighting in the future and even though this figure and the movie which inspired it is based on a video game, it's still nice to see how the future soldier is kitted out for battle. Unlike the United States Colonial Marine Corps (USCMC) or USCM, commonly known as the Colonial Marines, from the 1986 movie "Aliens", these Rapid Response Tactical Squad (RRTS) Marines have less gear and armor. You can check out my earlier post HERE of Hot Toys 1/6 scale USCM CPL Hicks & PFC Vasquez for comparison pictures :) scroll down to see more pictures of this fully equipped VTS 1/6th scale Dark Soldier 12-inch Figure

VTS VM-007 1/6th scale Dark Soldier 12-inch Figure aka Karl Urban as Staff Sergeant John "Reaper" Grimm comes with 1/6th scale real-like head sculpt, 12-inch figure body with long-sleeved T-shirt (black), combat suit, tactical vest, universal pouch (small), magazine pouch, universal pouch (large), ammo pouch, tactical belt, elbow pads (one pair), knee pads (one pair), half-finger tactical gloves (one pair), walkie-talkie radio, combat knife with scabbard, drop-leg holster, pistol, sci-fi assault rifle, rifle sling, radio communications headset, combat boots (one pair)

In my haste to put this figure together, I almost forgot the radio communications headset which has a long name but is actually rather small ;p don't throw away the box until you have removed everything.

No assembly instructions are provided so you just have to base it on the preview pictures which VTS had released before this figure actually shipped. I had posted them earlier HERE

There are a lot of pouches on the vest but only one rifle magazine is provided. You can see the weapon with magazine removed in my previous post HERE

In the movie, the year is 2046 and man has already landed on Mars and established a research facility there but they are still using bullets to kill aliens.

Besides the souped up Heckler & Koch G36 rifle made to look futuristic and high tech, some of the marines including Mac (Yao Chin), Duke (Razaaq Adoti) and Reaper (Karl Urban) use H&K USP handguns with stainless-steel barrels as their sidearms.

In this side profile picture of the VTS 1/6 scale Dark Soldier 12-inch figure, you can see both weapons at his side, with the pistol holstered in a drop-down carrier

The only thing that says this is a futuristic trooper is the gun / rifle. Everything else looks rather conventional and very present-day.

Even present day soldiers don't wear half-finger tactical gloves because they don't offer as much protection ;p

Here are some close-up shots / pictures of the VTS Dark Soldier 1/6th scale real-like head sculpt that was meant to resemble Karl Urban as Staff Sergeant John "Reaper" Grimm in the movie

Karl-Heinz Urban (born 1972) is a New Zealand actor best known for playing Éomer in the second and third installments of Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. He is also known for playing Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in "Star Trek", "Star Trek Into Darkness", Caesar on "Xena: Warrior Princess", Vaako in "The Chronicles of Riddick" and Judge Dredd in the 2012 film "Dredd".

From certain angles you can tell it's Karl Urban but for the most part, the likeness is off, perhaps for legal reasons such as copyright infringement.

Here's a screen grab of Karl Urban as John "Reaper" Grimm in Doom

And here's the VTS 1/6th scale Dark Soldier 12" Figure set in the same position / pose for comparison. I think the eyes are set too deep into the face. The real actor doesn't have such deep set eyes on his face as the 12-inch figure.

Scroll down for more close-up shots / images / pictures of VTS Dark Soldier 12-inch figure

Here's a close-up picture of the futuristic sci-fi rifle seen in the movie "Doom" and reproduced very nicely to scale here by VTS

Review Phicen Limited 1/6 scale Female Seam-less Body Tan skin large bust size 12-inch figure

Here's the recently released Phicen Limited 1/6 scale Female Seamless Body with Tan skin and large bust size 12-inch figure. I only bought this female figure because I had gotten the Flirty Girl Collectibles FCS2012-2 1/6th Scale Female Character Set (formerly called World Traveller Female Character Set) which came with a 1/6 scale female head sculpt but no body so I started looking for one.

All the ones in the market were pale skin and I needed a tan skin female, preferably with large bust size to fit the female character I was going to put / bash together. Ideally it should be seamless as the female character Flirty Girl had released does show off quite a bit of skin, unlike their previous release which was quite covered up. See the Flirty Girl Collectibles 1:6th scale EMERSON 12-inch Female Figure Character Set REVIEW HERE :) So in the end this Phicen Female Seamless Figure with tan skin and large bust size seemed to fit the bill. Scroll down to see more pictures.

The box packaging is pretty straight forward and the female silhouette on the front covers the almost nude female form rather well. On the back of the box are a set of instructions on what you can do and what you ought not to do with this Phicen Female Seamless Body.

I've scanned the instructions and put them in my toy blog post here for all to see. There are some limitations with the figure's articulation and a wrong action could cause breakage since the joints are hidden inside the rubber outer layer / covering which doubles up as the skin so you cannot see which way you are bending the limbs. Plus some of the joints are rather tight because the figure is new and you aren't sure if the joints aren't moving because they are new and tight OR because they are being bent the wrong way.

Here's the Phicen Limited 1/6 scale Female Seam-less Body with Tan skin and large bust size 12-inch figure relaxing in her bathtub after leaving the confines of her box

I'm not sure if the skin is tanned enough as the Phicen 1/6 scale female head sculpt doesn't seem to match the tan skin, with the head slightly more tanned than the rest of her body.

I'm showing more of the 1/6 scale female head sculpt here as it will be the first thing that comes off when I use this Phicen Limited 1/6 scale Female Seam-less Body with the Flirty Girl Collectibles FCS2012-2 1/6th Scale Female Character Set (formerly called World Traveller Female Character Set).

NEXT: Flirty Girl Collectibles FCS2012-2 1/6th Scale Female Character Set (formerly called World Traveller Female Character Set) - is she or is she not Lara Croft?

Review Flirty Girl Collectibles 1/6th scale Female Character Set – 12-inch Lara Croft Tomb Raider

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

continued from previous post...

Lara Croft is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Square Enix (previously Eidos Interactive) video game series Tomb Raider. She is presented as a beautiful, intelligent, and athletic English archaeologist-adventuress who ventures into ancient, hazardous tombs and ruins around the world. Created by a team at UK developer Core Design that included Toby Gard, the character first appeared in the 1996 video game Tomb Raider. (source: wiki)

Lara Croft has also appeared in video game sequels, printed adaptations, a series of animated short films, feature films (portrayed by Angelina Jolie), and merchandise related to the series. Lara Croft is depicted as an athletic woman; she has brown eyes and hair, frequently kept in a plait or ponytail. The character's classic costume is a turquoise sleeveless tank top, light brown shorts, calf-high boots, and long white socks. Accessories include fingerless gloves, a backpack, a utility belt with holsters on either side, and two pistols.

This is the recently released Flirty Girl Collectibles FCS2012-2 1/6th Scale Female Character Set for building / kitbashing your own 12-inch female action figure. Flirty Girl Collectibles FCS2012-2 1/6th Scale Female Character Set includes: Highly Detailed 1/6 scale Female Head Sculpt, Dark Brown Faux Leather Jacket, Turquoise sleeveless swimsuit, Khaki / Tan Shorts, Black Faux Leather Belt, Black Faux Leather double pistol holsters, Silver pistols (x 2), Faux Leather Backpack, Knife, Knife Sheath, White Sock sleeves, Faux Leather Boots with Laces (Lug sole boot / feet design). Scroll down to see pictures.

Flirty Girl packaging box is simple enough. Inside the box contains all the items as listed above plus an all-important assembly guide for the double pistol holster. The items for the double pistol holster and belt all come loose including the buckles and what-not so you have to put it together to complete the look. The pictures definitely helped in the process.

Here are some of the items from the Flirty Girl Collectibles FCS2012-2 1/6th Scale Female Character Set all laid out for inspection. The parts missing from the picture below are the belt and pistol holsters with the loose buckles and straps. That require some assembling. The snake looking thing on the right of the picture is not a snake for diorama purposes but Lara Croft's plaited ponytail.

Here's a close look at the two 1/6 scale pistols included with this Flirty Girls Female Character set. In the 2008 film "Wanted", Fox (played by Angelina Jolie) packs a custom Safari Arms Matchmaster 1911 clone with a Wilson 10 round magazine, Parrish 1911 Bushing Compensator (which would cause a muzzle flash that would likely blind her in low-light situations), engraved ivory grips, and custom engraved slide throughout the film. The official website of the film describes: "Fox's weapon of choice is a custom .45 caliber SAFARI MATCHMASTER semi automatic pistol. Although she prefers its lightweight versatility, she is a virtuoso with any firearm which exists". These two pistols look exactly like the ones Fox used in the "Wanted" movie :)

Flirty Girl Collectibles has included a 1/6 scale Knife and Knife Sheath as part of their set. It's a nice touch :) There's also the Dark Brown Faux Leather Jacket, Faux Leather Backpack and Faux Leather Boots with Laces (Lug sole boot / feet design)

Time to play dress-up now. The 1/6 scale female head sculpt of Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft first goes on the Phicen Limited Large Bust Seamless Female Body (Tan) which was reviewed in the previous post. Then the Turquoise sleeveless swimsuit is slipped on. It was pretty cold when all this was happening LOL

Here's how the Flirty Girls 1/6 scale Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft female head sculpt looks on the Phicen Limited Large Bust Seamless Female Body (Tan) with turquoise swimsuit.

And here's the view from the back.

Now here's a picture with the Khaki / Tan Shorts and sock sleeves put on. With the light brown shorts on, she looks like she's wearing a turquoise sleeveless tank top which is Lara Croft's classic costume. The reason she's wearing sock sleeves and not socks is because the 1/6 scale boots included with this set are boot-feet i.e. the Faux Leather Boots with Laces come with Lug sole boot / feet design

Here's the Phicen Limited 12-inch Large Bust Tan Skin Seamless Female Body wearing the classic Lara Croft costume of a turquoise sleeveless tank top, light brown shorts, calf-high boots and long white socks. She wears a utility belt with holsters on either side, and two pistols.

Scroll down for turnaround views of this 1/6 scale Lara Croft 12-inch female action figure

Inspired by pop artist Neneh Cherry and comic book character Tank Girl, Lead graphic artist Toby Gard experimented with different designs, including a muscular woman and a Nazi-like militant. He settled on a tough South American woman with a braid named Laura Cruz. Eidos management preferred a more "UK friendly" name, and selected Lara Croft from similar-sounding British names found in an English telephone directory. Along with the name change, the character's backstory was altered to incorporate a British origin.

Here are some close-up shots / pictures / images of Flirty Girls 1/6 scale Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft female head sculpt. She certainly has a pair of BIG eyes ;p

Scroll down to see more pictures of this Flirty Girls 1/6 scale Lara Croft head sculpt on a Phicen Limited 12-inch Large Bust Tan Skin Seamless Female Body.

When Angelina Jolie was cast for the role of Lara Croft, she braided her hair and used minimal padding to increase her bust a cup size to 36D for the role. She felt that Croft's video game proportions were unrealistic, and wanted to avoid showing such proportions to young girls. Jolie trained rigorously for the action scenes required for the role.

Her training focused on practising the physical skills necessary to perform the film's stunts. She worked with guns, did her own bungee jumping, and manoeuvring with the braid. Director Simon West had not anticipated that Jolie would do her own stunts, and was impressed, as was stunt coordinator Simon Crane, by the effort she put into them.

Angelina Jolie reprised her role for a sequel, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Directed by Jan de Bont, the 2003 film focused more on the character's development. De Bont praised Jolie's understanding of Lara Croft, as well as the character's strength, saying he "hates women in distress."

I think Flirty Girls Collectibles managed to capture Angelina Jolie's likeness rather well in 1/6 scale

The problem with the female head sculpt was the skin tone which was rather dark / tanned. Hence a tan female body is necessary. Large bust is a plus as that was the original intended design for the video game ;p

And now let's examine the 1/6 scale double pistol holster and the calf-high Faux Leather Boots with Laces. A knife and sheath is attached to her left boot as well.

I wanted to post these pictures of the Flirty Girl Collectibles 1/6th scale Lara Croft double pistol holsters in close-up views to show how the belt and holster straps are assembled as these parts all come loose and you are required to put it all together.

The 1/6 calf-high Faux Leather Boots with Laces are also very nicely detailed and made. They certainly helped to complete the look.

Here's a look at the 1/6 scale pistol in the holster. I think it's a nice touch by Flirty Girl Collectibles to include these custom .45 caliber SAFARI MATCHMASTER semi automatic pistols used by Angelina Jolie as Fox in "Wanted". You can also see the knife in the sheath secured to her left boot.

continued from previous post...

This is just cam-whoring, plain and simple ;p The urban dictionary describes "camwhoring" as "To take pictures of either yourself and / or with your friends excessively". Well, Lara likes her pictures taken so here are more of Flirty Girl Collectibles 1/6th scale Female Character Set aka 12-inch Lara Croft Tomb Raider with Phicen Limited Large Bust Seamless Female Body with Tan skin. And as a fellow collector requested, I've left the heater switch off LOL

You've already viewed the stage-by-stage dressing up process (if you were to scroll back upwards, you'll see her stripping down instead haha) in the previous post so I thought I'll just post these pictures of 1/6 scale Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft doing her thing i.e. pointing her guns, if you know what I mean. Is it cold in here or do I see headlights flashing? Can't help it, gotta get to the point (or is that two points?) ;p

There have been quite a few 1/6 scale Lara Croft female action figures (plus some Lara Croft wannabes) released already – you can check out my earlier posts HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE– but IMHO I think this is the best looking Lara Croft so far and the 1/6 scale female head sculpt has the most resemblance to Angelina Jolie who played Lara Croft in two movies.

In the Lara Croft films, Angelina Jolie didn't exactly wear the character's classic costume which is a turquoise sleeveless tank top, light brown shorts, calf-high boots, and long white socks but with 12-inch figures, a little imagination can go a long way :)

What's even nicer with this Flirty Girl Collectibles 1/6th scale Female Character Set is the inclusion of the two pistols that look identical to the custom .45 caliber SAFARI MATCHMASTER semi automatic pistols Angelina Jolie used as Fox in the 2008 film "Wanted".

The Phicen Limited Large Bust Seamless Female Body with Tan skin (reviewed HERE) offers a fair bit of articulation but because the figure is fresh out of the box and brand new, the joints are pretty tight and that worries me. I am not sure if they are tight when I move the joints because the figure is new or because I might be moving the joints the wrong way without realizing since I cannot see the joints hidden under the seamless body / "skin".

At least now I feel I finally have a 1/6 scale Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft 12-inch figure in my collection.

I don't collect a lot of female figures because one can mistaken them as "dolls" or "dollies", a term used for fashion dolls like Barbie and Bratz. Action Figures tend to be movie-related with the emphasis on action and Lara Croft is most definitely a female action figure.

Scroll down to see more pictures of Lara Croft as the designers intended her to be. Running around and fighting bad guys with such huge assets might not really work in real life and that's why it only happens in video games. It's a guy thing ;p

Sideshow Collectibles proudly presents Spider-Man, the newest Marvel icon in the Sideshow Classics statue collection. Crafted using a unique cold cast bronze process that integrates metallic powder and polystone, it retains much of the look and feel of a traditional foundry bronze. With a distinctive luster, more substantial weight, and cool-to-the-touch feel, the Spider-man Sideshow Classics Cold Cast Bronze statue is an exceptional addition to any collection.

Spider-Man cast in bronze looks more like Han Solo in Carbonite as seen in "Star Wars Episode IV: The Empire Strikes Back". Darth Vader ordered the modification of a freezing chamber on Bespin's Cloud City so that he could freeze Luke Skywalker — eliminating any chance of escape — to transport him to the Emperor. As a test, the process was tried on Han Solo, who survived the freezing process through the use of a special device and was eventually freed from his trap. Scroll down to see more pictures of this upcoming release of Sideshow Collectibles Cold Cast Bronze Spider-Man Statue.

This Sideshow Classics Statue Cold Cast Bronze Spider-Man is 20" H (508mm) x 12" W (304.8mm) x 10" L (254mm) and weighs 9.00 lbs (4.08 kg). Price? US$299.99! Being a statue, don't expect any articulation whatsoever ;p It's just going to stay frozen there, cast in stone forever. Which is why I can never get / understand the appeal of statues nor can I truly appreciate them. Perhaps if they were much cheaper but given the high price, I always expect it to do more than just stand there.

This particular Spider-Man Cold Cast Bronze Statue caught my eye because it is of the classic Spider-Man in a rather dynamic pose from the Marvel comics and not one of the modern interpretations or movie version costumes

Thing is, was Spider-Man that muscular or was his strength enhanced from the radioactive spider's bite? i.e. he has super strength but was not muscularly built like Captain America or Batman. Me thinks he should be more lean.

Review III: Flirty Girl 1/6 scale Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft complete with jacket and backpack

continued from earlier post...

Finally, here's the Flirty Girl Collectibles 1/6 scale Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft (with Phicen Limited Large Bust Tan Skin Seamless Female Body) complete with her Dark Brown Faux Leather jacket and Faux Leather backpack. That completes the look of the Flirty Girl Collectibles FCS2012-2 1/6th Scale Female Character Set which I first reviewed HERE :) The previous posts and reviews had only shown Lara Croft in the character's classic costume of a turquoise sleeveless tank top, light brown shorts, utility belt with holsters on either side for her two pistols, calf-high boots, and long white socks. Now I've added the 1/6 scale Dark Brown Faux Leather jacket and Faux Leather backpack that came with this Flirty Girl set.

I've also added what I felt was a most appropriate diorama display base with this 1/6 scale Lara Croft 12-inch female action figure. Being a tomb raider, you'll most likely find Lara Croft in jungles looking for lost ancient civilizations whose treasures she can recover rather than in an urban setting / concrete jungle. The jungle themed display base with a puddle of "water" in the center is borrowed from Hot Toys MMS90 Movie Masterpiece Series 1/6 scale 14-inch Predator set - reviewed earlier HERE. Scroll down to see more pictures of this Flirty Girl 1/6 scale Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft 12-inch female figure complete with jacket and backpack.

I don't particularly like what Flirty Girl Collectibles did with the brown faux leather jacket :( They have weathered it so much that it looks really roughed out and worn. The 1/6 scale jacket looks so over used that it doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of her outfit which is rather clean and new.

1/6 scale Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) is holding her custom .45 caliber SAFARI MATCHMASTER semi automatic pistols in her hands. The pistols were used by Angelina Jolie in the 2008 film "Wanted". So this is a bit like two figures in one haha

I think the Hot Toys Predator diorama display base works very well with this 1/6 scale Lara Croft 12-inch female action figure for that extra look of figure and display base

Here's how the Flirty Girl Collectibles 1/6 scale Faux Leather Backpack looks on the 12-inch female figure. The bag is nice and all but I always felt that her backpack is just too small to be of any practical use. Where does she keep all the stuff she needs when she goes tomb raiding? She doesn't even seem to have any water bottle on her.

Scroll down to see close-up pictures of her backpack and how she looks with it

As you can see from the close-up views and pictures of the Flirty Girl Collectibles 1/6 scale brown faux leather jacket, there's just too much weathering done. It really looks very worn out and weathered (too much me thinks), like it's going to tear or disintegrate at any moment.

You can also see more pictures of the Flirty Girl Collectibles 1/6 scale Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft head sculpt from different angles and sides.

To me, this is one of the better head sculpts of Angelina Jolie by far and the resemblance to the actress is there. You can see the likeness of the head sculpt to the actress who played Lara Croft on the big screen not once but twice.

Hot Toys 1/6 scale Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark head sculpt on a TTM-18 12" figure body

This is the Hot Toys 1/6 scale Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark head sculpt from Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS123 Iron Man 2 Mark IV Limited Edition 12-inch Collectible Figure (previously reviewed HERE) put on the Hot Toys TTM-18 1/6 scale TrueType 12-inch Figure Body. You could say Tony is stark naked :)

The TTM18 is that of a Caucasian Male with Narrow Shoulder. The head sculpt that came with the TTM-18 bears a strong resemblance to Wentworth Miller (he of "Prison Break" fame). You can see pictures of the original figure HERE. The TTM18 was followed by Hot Toys TTM19 TrueType Muscular Body Figure with a 1/6 scale Jake Gyllenhaal head sculpt (see my review HERE as well as comparison pictures of both the TTM18 and TTM19 HERE). Since then, Hot Toys has previewed the release of the TTM20 (1/6th scale TrueType Figure – Advanced Muscular Body), TTM21 (TrueType Figure – Regular Body) and TTM22 (TrueType Figure – Slim Body) which seems pretty pricey to me at SGD75 each :( Guess I'll have to start looking for alternative 12-inch figure bodies.

I had gotten quite a number of TTM18 and TTM19 TrueType bodies when they were first released so I won't be needing the later issues nor want them ;p Scroll down to see more of Hot Toys 1/6 scale Tony Stark head sculpt on the TTM18 TrueType 12-inch figure body. You can see Tony's a little modest when it comes to nudity.

Tony Stark has never struck me as a muscular type of guy like Captain America (Steve Rogers) so this TTM18 body looks to fit him just fine. I guess if no TTM18 body is available, the closest would have to be the TTM21 (TrueType Figure – Regular Body).

I'm posting these pictures of this Hot Toys 1/6 scale Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark head sculpt on a Hot Toys TTM18 1/6 scale TrueType 12-inch Figure Body first as a preparation for my next mission i.e. to dress him up

Incoming: ZCWO 1/6 scale Ab02 Normal Size Male Body looks like a certain Mr Daniel Craig

What can I say? ZC World (company) ZCWO (brand) next 12-inch figure body with 1/6 scale head sculpt which they are calling their Ab02 Normal Size Male Body looks a lot like a certain Mr Daniel Craig, he who is now world famous as a secret agent super spy (ironic isn't it, a spy who is famous?).

The ZC World ZCWO 1/6 scale Articulate Body (AB-02) with 1/6 scale head sculpt will also come with alternative neck connector, 2 pairs of extra hands, ankle extension joints and a extendable 12-inch figure display stand.

What's next? I am thinking that one of the new ZCWO Mens Hommes 1/6 scale Men's Fashion outfit set will be a certain British MI6 Secret Agent 007 attire. Just like what ZC World did with their ZCWO MH Vol. 010 USAF Officer Service Dress Uniform outfit set which was first previewed HERE before it was followed closely by the ZCWO Ab01 12-inch African American figure body with a 1/6 scale Terrence Howard looking head sculpt - see the pictures HERE.

The name's Bond, James Bond!

UPDATE February 21, 2013: ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol. 13 Men's Fashion series 1/6 tuxedo suit is just the thing this ZCWO 1/6 scale Ab02 Normal Size 12-inch Male Body needs ;p

ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol. 13 Men's Fashion series 1/6 tuxedo suits me just fine

continued from previous post...

What did I tell you? After giving us a preview of their ZCWO 1/6 scale Articulate Body (AB-02) Normal Size Male Body with 1/6 scale head sculpt that resembles very much a certain famous secret agent super spy ("Bond" with a license to kill) - see the pictures HERE, ZC World has released pictures / images of their ZCWO 1/6 scale Mens Hommes Vol. 013 Men's Fashion Tuxedo Suit. Guess who it's meant for?

According to ZC World, the upcoming release of the ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol. 13 Men's Fashion series 1/6 scale tuxedo suit set will have a new cut with a better fit. ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol. 13 Men's Fashion series 1/6 tuxedo suit will contain the following: black jacket, black suit fabric pants, long-sleeved white shirt, black bow tie, black socks, black leather shoes, Px4 pistol with a silencer, AKM folding stock assault rifle with grenade launcher (AKS-74 with GP-30 grenade launcher), and glass for holding Vodka Martini "shaken, not stirred"

There have been a lot of 1/6 scale black tuxedo suits released already and this one just adds to that collection. I was hoping to see the grey suit that Daniel Craig as MI6 Agent 007 James Bond wore in the beginning of the latest Bond film "Skyfall" but I guess ZC World went the safer route by producing this standard black suit preferred by Secret Agent James Bond since the first film was released so many years ago.

The Beretta Px4 Storm is a semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Beretta of Italy and intended for personal defense and law enforcement use. This 1/6 scale version comes with a silencer / suppressor.

The 1/6 glass for holding Vodka Martini "shaken, not stirred" looks to be a wine glass when it should have been a cocktail glass (also called a martini glass) which is a stemmed glass with a cone-shaped bowl placed upon a stem above a flat base. The shape of a martini glass orginally came from the shape of a womans' breast.

Note: Limited to only 100 sets.

Scroll down to see the other suits, including the grey suit recently seen in the latest James Bond film "Skyfall" with Daniel Craig reprising his role as MI6 Secret Agent 007 James Bond, the man with a license to kill.

I saw this right after posting my toy blog entry on the subject of Daniel Craig as James Bond in my previous two posts HERE and HERE, the first covering ZCWO's new 1/6 scale Ab02 Normal Size Male Body with Daniel Craig's head sculpt and the second on ZCWO's newest Mens Hommes Men's Fashion MH Vol. 13 which is a black tuxedo suit with weapons included.

Everyone seems to have a thing for Bond lately, with Brother Production also previewing their version of the British Super Spy with their Sky Fall MI6 Agent "Bone" 12-inch figure. You can view the pictures HERE

This particular NAT "The Agent" Limited edition Set comes with almost two complete suits with only one pair of shoes and socks missing. The black tuxedo is a must if you want him to be recognizable as James Bond.

The grey suit is a nice addition since Daniel Craig as James Bond wore it in "Skyfall".

The 1/6 scale head sculpt does bear some resemblance to the actor who played him in the last three Bond films. Skyfall is the twenty-third James Bond film produced by Eon Productions. The film's release coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Bond series, which began with Dr. No in 1962. It features Daniel Craig's third performance as James Bond, and Javier Bardem as Raoul Silva, the film's antagonist.

Daniel Craig achieved international fame when chosen as the sixth actor to play the role of James Bond, replacing Pierce Brosnan. Though he was initially greeted with scepticism, his debut in Casino Royale was highly acclaimed and earned him a BAFTA award nomination, with the film becoming the highest grossing in the series at the time. Quantum of Solace followed two years later. His third Bond film, Skyfall, premiered in 2012 and is now the highest grossing film in the series.

Craig describes his portrayal of Bond as an anti-hero: "The question I keep asking myself while playing the role is, 'Am I the good guy or just a bad guy who works for the good side?' Bond's role, after all, is that of an assassin when you come down to it. I have never played a role in which someone's dark side shouldn't be explored. I don't think it should be confusing by the end of the film, but during the film you should be questioning who he is."

"What the hell kind of name is Ghost?" – John "Soap" Mactavish

Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley was a British special forces operator in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2", "Modern Warfare 2: Ghost" and "Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish". He is the second in command of Task Force 141, and is seen wearing dark red sunglasses and a skull-patterned balaclava along with headphones with a mic.

And this is CooModel's latest upcoming release: a 1/6 scale COD (Call Of Duty) Ghost TAD Fleece Jacket set. The Product list will include: TAD Fleece jacket, Pants, Face mask, Pouch, Pistol and Holster. Note: Does not include other exhibits. Estimated time of release: second quarter of 2013. Scroll down to see more pictures

As you can see, not everything in the pictures are included. It's just the basic outfit set.

Here's a screen grab of Ghost wearing gray TAD Fleece Jacket and camouflage pants from the "Loose Ends" exhibit in "Museum".

And here's what you'll really need to get the look right ;p

Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley has even appeared in comics :)

Would have been nice if the CooModel 1/6 scale COD (Call Of Duty) Ghost TAD Fleece Jacket set came with a lot more stuff. I guess kitbashing is in order to complete the desired look. That can be quite fun to do too.

Nowadays, as a 1/6 scale or 12-inch action figure collector, you'll be spoilt for choice. There are so many companies and 1/6 scale manufacturers gunning for your wallet and hard-earned money that you have to choose carefully. Unfortunately, the prices of 1/6 scale items have also gone up rather significantly, leaving us with very little purchasing power compared to before.

For quite a number of items / products, there tend to be one or two choices for the same item. An example would be The Avengers Tony Stark attire / outfit: both MC Toys and Asmus Toys released almost identical sets (see my post HERE). Another example is the 1/6 scale Daniel Craig as James Bond 12-inch figure. There are at least three versions coming out - NAT "The Agent" Limited Edition 12-inch Figure (pictures HERE), ZCWO's new 1/6 scale Ab02 Normal Size Male Body with Daniel Craig's head sculpt and ZCWO's newest Mens Hommes Men's Fashion MH Vol. 13 black tuxedo suit set (posted earlier HERE and HERE) plus Brother Production Sky Fall MI6 Agent "Bone" 12-inch figure (previewed HERE). And now there's this MC Toys 1/6 scale Grey Polartec Ranger Hoodie set.

In my previous post HERE, I had covered the incoming CooModel 1/6 scale COD (Call Of Duty) Ghost (Riley) TAD Fleece Jacket set which was a very basic set to start kitbashing your very own 1/6 scale Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley, a British special forces operator in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2", "Modern Warfare 2: Ghost" and "Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish". Well, this happens to be the MC Toys version.

MC Toys 1/6 scale Grey Polartec Ranger Hoodie set (Item #MCM-013) will consist of Grey Polartec Ranger Hoodie, Battleship Grey Force 10 Cargo Pant, Skull pattern scarf, SKULL Morale PATCH, Relief PATCH, Skull Belt, Beanie, Tee / T-shirt.

I think this outfit set looks much nicer than the CooModel version I covered in the previous post. I much prefer the darker colors of this MC Toys 1/6 scale Grey Polartec Ranger Hoodie set than the CooModel COD (Call Of Duty) Ghost (Riley) TAD Fleece Jacket set.

Scroll down to see more pictures. This is definitely a good start if you are thinking of kitbashing your own version of Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley from Call of Duty.

The 2011 American science fiction sports drama film "Real Steel" is set in the near future where robot boxing is a top sport. A struggling promoter Charlie Kenton (played by Hugh Jackman) feels he's found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he discovers he has an 11-year-old son Max (Dakota Goyo) who wants to know his father.

Charlie buys a secondhand World Robot Boxing league (WRB) robot, the once-famous Noisy Boy, and arranges for it to fight the illegal circuit's champion, Midas, at a venue belonging to his friend Finn.

Midas, "The Gold-Blooded Killer", is the king of Crash Palace and in fact the whole underworld (the illegal robot boxing circuit) is an undefeated bot. When fighting him, you should depend on fast attacks since he is quick to change the tide of the battle. When he is already beating up your bot, you must think of a way to get back on him before he gets to rip off your bot's arm. If he does, there's no getting back on him now. Because he will start getting ready to rip your head off with his special move, The DeCappucino.

This is ThreeA 1/6 scale Real Steel Midas "The Gold-Blooded Killer" now available at The Falcon's Hangar. Scroll down to see more pictures of this 1/6 scale robot fighter with lots of moving parts and cylinders. It's a very cool looking figure, no doubt about it.

Midas is a golden-colored robot with red gloves, "boots" and a red mohawk. He is inspired by King Midas, who supposedly had the ability to turn everything he touched to gold.

He is modelled to look like a Spartan Warrior.

Midas fights like a gangster. He has fast, strong blows that can easily finish off his opponent. He doesn't like to knock out other bots, he likes to get a reward for his fighting. He likes to take off arms, and he finishes with a head blow, the Tomahawk Blow.

He might based on Clubber Lang from Rocky III.

He is the tallest 'bot in the illigal circuit. He's even taller than Zeus himself, making him the tallest bot in the whole film! (Zeus is 8'6, compared with Midas who is 8'9 !)

He's the only bot in the movie, aside from Zeus, to not lose a fight.

You can order this ThreeA Midas robot figure from Real Steel at TFH now!

Check out Crazy Owners Collection @ COF-032 1/6 scale Victorian Style suit - another cowboy?

Crazy Owners seem to have a knack for producing and releasing 1/6 scale outfits for only three categories - cowboys, ninjas and samurai

This is the latest Crazy Owners Collection to be previewed and it is Crazy Owners Collection @ COF-032 Victorian Style suit. According to wiki: During the 1850s, men started wearing shirts with high upstanding or turnover collars and four-in-hand neckties tied in a bow, or tied in a knot with the pointed ends sticking out like "wings". The upper-class continued to wear top hats, and bowler hats were worn by the working class. Frock coats were shortened to knee-length and were worn for business, while the mid-thigh length sack coat slowly displaced the frock coat for less-formal occasions. Top hats briefly became the very tall "stovepipe" shape, but a variety of other hat shapes were popular.

I'm not really sure whose outfit this Crazy Owners Collection @ COF-032 Victorian Style suit is supposed to be based on. So far Crazy Owners has always based their 1/6 scale outfits / costume sets on certain famous / prominent people and you can recognize the similarity instantly but this time, I'm stumped. Anybody got any ideas to share? Scroll down to see more of the 1/6 scale Gunner coat and shirt with real pockets plus trousers, cowboy hat, cowboy boots and Smith & Wessen S&W .45 Schofield revolver (patented in the USA on 20 June 1871 and 22 April 1873 by Smith and Wesson, and was used by the US Army from 1875 – 1892).
