Hot Toys Star Wars: The Force Awakens 1/6th First Order Flametrooper action figure Review II

continued from previous toy blog post...

"FLAME ON!"

Specialised stormtroopers of the First Order, flametroopers carry incendiary weapons that can transform any battlefield into a blazing inferno. When strategically deployed, flametroopers can deprive the enemy of safe cover by touching it, while supplying cover for friendly forces in the form of walls of fire that stormtrooper armor can withstand. In particularly dry and flammable environments, flametrooper deployment may lead to a quick and decisive victory, as the fires started by their weaponry grow to rapidly engulf any resistance.

This is the recently released highly-accurate ultra-detailed Hot Toys "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" 1:6 scale First Order Flametrooper 12-inch collectible figure, specially crafted based on the image of First Order Flametrooper in the latest Star Wars film. The figure comes with a flame effect accesory which adds a nice touch to the overall look of the figure when it is added. In this second part review, the flametrooper is shown with weapon raised (weapon in question is the D-93w Incinerator Flamethrower or double barrelled flame projector gun) and shooting flames out of the ignition chamber and barrel via the Peizoelectrical ignition system.

Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures.
Click on them for bigger and better views.

The Flametrooper's suit included a reinforced cyramech helmet with minimized openings, a narrow slit visor to reduce weapon glare, and supplemental breathing tank linkages. Other suit features included a temperature control body glove, integrated knee covers, heat deflecting armored gaiters, articulated greaves for greater foot movement, and positive grip boots. The backpack housed twin outer conflagrine-14 fuel tanks and a central pressurized propellant tank. The armored tankages worn by flametroopers contain extremely volatile flammable gel that is launched by a separate propellant gas. Both are mixed and ignited at the barrelhead of the projector gun and launched a distance of 75 metres, depending on local wind conditions.

Under most combat conditions, flametroopers are specialist units accompanied by standard stormtrooper infantry. The incendiary assault troopers are best deployed to flush out entrenched enemy positions, allowing the standard infantry to fire upon targets as they flee their cover. The standard infantry also serves as protection, guarding the flametroopers as they advance slowly and methodically, as it would be unwise to outrun the advance of the blaze unleased by their flamethrower.

Due to the tight body glove (black under-suit) worn under the armor, the figure is very much restricted in its movements and articulation, much like the earlier released Hot Toys First Order Stormtrooper figure (you can check out the review posted on my toy blog HERE and HERE). The black body glove is made up of a mixed material of leather (for the lower body i.e. legs) and rubber (for the upper body / neck and arms) parts which is most movie-accurate but impedes the figure's articulation quite a bit, especially the leather clad legs. Despite that, it is still a nice addition to the troops and I couldn't ask for anything else. The quality and finishing are top notch, as can be expected coming from Hot Toys.

The backpack houses twin outer conflagrine-14 fuel tanks and a central pressurized propellant tank. The propellant pressure indicator / gauge looks to be out of place since one wouldn't expect to see something like this in the advanced technological age of the Star Wars universe. But then again, a look at the Millennium Falcon (Rey called it "garbage" at one point LOL) puts all arguments to rest. Compared to the sleek ships of the First Order and the Empire before them, the Millennium Falcon proved the point that one shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

Check out the First Order Flametrooper's reinforced cyramech helmet with minimized openings, a narrow slit visor to reduce weapon glare, and supplemental breathing tank linkages. It's rather similar to that worn by the Snowtrooper (check out the action figure review of Hot Toys Star Wars TFA 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure posted HERE and HERE)

Motorcycles have been going to war as long as there have motorcycles around to go to war. American Harley-Davidson and Indian; British Triumph, BSA Matchless and Norton; Italian Moto Guzzi and Gilera; French Terot and Gnome Rhone; Belgian FN and Gillet. If you had a war to go to, motorcycles would get you there, oftentimes faster and through terrain inaccessible to other vehicles.

The German military was the largest employers of motorcycles during World War II 1939-45. In addition, as German forces swept across conquered lands, they acquired a wide array of British, French and Belgian machines, painted them Wehrmacht gray and sent them into battle. German military motorcyclists played an important role either in solo courier or scouting capacity, as teams of tank hunters or in divisions of rifle troops. (source: Bikes of the Blitzkrieg)

Red Diorama "Gateway Light Up Base" scene: Great setup for almost any sci-fi diorama scene

This is my third posting of 1:6 scale diorama scenes by Red Diorama. The first toy blog post was on the Red Diorama "I shot the bus driver" scene - see the entry HERE and the second was the Red Diorama "Throne" scene: the perfect setting for 12-inch Loki, god of mischief, adoptive brother of Thor OR any other malevolent would-be / wannabe ruler of the world / galaxy / universe who needs a temporary throne while he ponders the next step in his grand scheme of things. You can check out the pictures HERE.

The Red Diorama "Gateway Light Up Base" scene, as the name implies, is a technological or magical doorway that connects two distant locations separated by spacetime. It usually consists of two or more gateways, with an object entering one gateway leaving via the other instantaneously. Places linked by a gateway or portal include a different spot in the same universe (in which case it might be an alternative for teleportation); a parallel world (inter-dimensional portal); the past or the future (time portal); and other planes of existence, such as heaven, hell or other afterworlds.

There are so many possibilities with a gateway scene / diorama and I went with Hot Toys MMS255 "Guardians of the Galaxy" 1/6th scale Star-Lord Collectible Figure (which I had reviewed already HERE, HERE and HERE). Here we see Star-Lord exiting the Red Diorama "Gateway Light Up Base" scene which measures 26cm L x 26cm W x 42cm H.

COO MODEL 1/6th scale Empire Series - 12 Paladins of Charlemagne Collectible Figure

$

The Paladins, sometimes known as the Twelve Peers, were the foremost warriors of Charlemagne's court, according to the literary cycle known as the Matter of France. They first appear in the early chansons de geste such as The Song of Roland, where they represent Christian valour against the Saracen hordes inside Europe. The paladins and their associated exploits are largely later fictional inventions, with some basis in historical Frankish retainers of the 8th century and events such as the Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778 and the confrontation of the Frankish Empire with Umayyad Al-Andalus in the Marca Hispanica.

The Twelve Peers were Charlemagne's elite paladins or knights - the corps d'elite. The Twelve Peers were sort of like Arthur's Knights of the Round Table. Each paladin was a formidable warrior. And each peer has a companion to fight alongside him. Roland had Oliver as his companion. So in the time of battle they fought in pair. It is not so much to defend each back, as to kill as many of their enemies, matching the prowess of their companion. For a knight or paladin, courage and glory are paramount to them. The Twelve Peers commanded Charlemagne's first division in the army. They were the crack troop and advance-guard, meant to spearhead in any attack of a battle. This division is numbered twenty-thousand strong.

COO MODEL SE003 Empire Series 1/6th scale 12 Paladins of Charlemagne Collectible Figure specially features: One (1) silver hair head sculpt with a scar through the eye, One (1) body 2.0, Six (6) pieces of interchangeable palms (2 fists plus 4 palms in silver armour). Coming soon: Pangaea Toy PG03 1/6th scale Trojan General "Hector" (Eric Bana in Troy)

Troy is a 2004 American epic adventure war film written by David Benioff and directed by Wolfgang Petersen. It is loosely based on Homer's Iliad, though the film narrates the entire story of the decade-long Trojan War rather than just the quarrel between Achilles and Agamemnon in the ninth year. Achilles leads his Myrmidons along with the rest of the Greek army invading the historical city of Troy, defended by Hector's Trojan army. The end of the film (the sacking of Troy) is not taken from the Iliad, but rather from Virgil's Aeneid as the Iliad concludes with Hector's death and funeral.

The film features an ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Orlando Bloom. Eric Bana is cast as Hector, a Trojan prince and the greatest fighter for Troy in the Trojan War. As the first-born son of King Priam and Queen Hecuba, who was a descendant of Dardanus and Tros, the founder of Troy, he was a prince of the royal house and the heir apparent to his father's throne.

Pangaea Toy PG03 1/6th scale Trojan General "Hector" features: Detailed sculpted head with detachable hair sculpt, ACI Toys Muscular body "Andrew" with 29 points of articulations, Body detail is painted, with 8 pieces interchangeable palms | Costume: blue colored vest, blue colored war skirt with studs, blue colored underpants, pair of gray sandals (Hand-painted worn effect is applied) | Armor: Trojan style cuirass with detailed casted studs, Trojan style helmet with brown plume, pair of gauntlets, pair of greaves | Accessories: Trojan sword (die-cast metal), Trojan War shield

COREPLAY 1:6 scale Female Fitness Body: another alternative option for kitbashing females

$

It's always good to have more options when kitbashing 1:6 scale stuff. Kitbashing or model bashing is a practice whereby a new scale model is created by taking pieces out of commercial kits. These pieces may be added to a custom project or to another kit. For the hobbyist, kitbashing saves time that would be spent scratch building an entire model. Hobbyists may kitbash to create a model of a subject (real or imaginary) for which there is not a commercial kit. To see the 1:6 scale stuff needed for kitbashing OR just some of my stash, check out my toy blog post HERE.

Kitbashing is different from figure collecting because the latter just means you simply go out and buy a 12-inch figure and add it to your collection. Most of us collect figures but not all of us kitbash. When you want a particular figure in your collection but one is not made available to you by any of the manufacturers, then you have to find other ways to get the figure you want and sometimes, that involves kitbashing :) For example, no one released a 1:6 scale Leonardo DiCaprio as Dom Cobb 12-inch figure from INCEPTION but the head sculpt was made available so I managed to bash not one but two Dom Cobb 12-inch figures - see my posts HERE and HERE.

It used to be that males collect action figures and females collect dolls in general. But when a female features in an action movie (e.g. Princess Leia in Star Wars, Selene in Underworld, Alice in Resident Evil, Black Widow in the Marvel films), does that make the female figure a doll or an action figure? When I started collecting 12-inch figures, I stayed away from dolls but that line has now become very thin and separating the two is rather tricky.

Here's the latest offering of a 1/6th scale female figure for kitbashing by Coreplay. It's called the Fitness Body and two colors will be made available: Light Version and Dark Version. The upcoming Product will consist of: Articulated Female Fitness body, Female head sculpt, Hand set (4 pairs), Arch heel feet, Flat Feet, Bodysuit. As can be seen through the body suit, the female body is the fully jointed type and not a seamless body.

COOMODEL SE004 1/6th scale Empires Series - Richard the Lionheart 12-inch action figure

Richard I (8 September 1157 – 6 April 1199) was King of England from 6 July 1189 until his death. He also ruled as Duke of Normandy (as Richard IV), Duke of Aquitaine, Duke of Gascony, Lord of Cyprus, Count of Poitiers, Count of Anjou, Count of Maine, Count of Nantes, and Overlord of Brittany at various times during the same period. He was the third of five sons of King Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine. He was known as Richard Cœur de Lion or Richard the Lionheart because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior.

By the age of 16, Richard had taken command of his own army, putting down rebellions in Poitou against his father. Richard was a central Christian commander during the Third Crusade, leading the campaign after the departure of Philip II of France and scoring considerable victories against his Muslim counterpart, Saladin, although he did not retake Jerusalem from Saladin. Following his accession he spent very little time, perhaps as little as six months, in England; most of his life as king was spent on Crusade, in captivity, or in actively defending his lands in France. Rather than regarding his kingdom as a responsibility requiring his presence as ruler, he has been perceived as preferring to use it merely as a source of revenue to support his armies.

This is the upcoming COOMODEL SE004 1/6th scale Empires Series - Richard the Lionheart Collectible Figure. It is not a historically accurate figure but more of a fantasy figure. The same applies to the earlier previewed COO MODEL 1/6th scale Empire Series - 12 Paladins of Charlemagne Collectible Figure posted on my toy blog HERE. COOMODEL 1/6th scale Richard the Lionheart 12-inch action figure specially features: head sculpt of Richard I of England, upgraded action body, Six (6) Pieces of Interchangeable Palms (2 fists plus 4 palms in silver armor).

Review 1: Hot Toys "Star Wars: A New Hope" 1/6th scale Princess Leia Collectible Figure

This was part of my May 2016 haul - see the toy blog post HERE

Introduced in the original Star Wars film (1977), Leia is princess of the planet Alderaan, a member of the Imperial Senate and an agent of the Rebel Alliance. She thwarts the sinister Sith Lord Darth Vader and helps bring about the destruction of the Empire's cataclysmic weapon, the Death Star. Princess Leia Organa is portrayed in films by Carrie Fisher.

This is the recently released Hot Toys MMS298 "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" 1/6th scale Princess Leia Collectible Figure. It features: Authentic and detailed likeness of Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" with Newly developed head sculpt with movie-accurate facial expression and make-up, Detailed hair sculpture of Princess Leia’s iconic hair style; Approximately 26 cm tall Body with over 28 points of articulations; Five (5) pieces of interchangeable palms including: One (1) pair of relaxed palms, One (1) pair of weapon holding palms, One (1) left palm for supporting weapon

Having gotten the Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS297 "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" 1/6th scale Luke Skywalker collectible figure (check out the action figure review posted HERE, HERE and HERE), Hot Toys MMS261 "Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope" 1/6th scale Han Solo (covered HERE and HERE) and Hot Toys MMS262 Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope: 1/6th scale Chewbacca 36 cm tall collectible figure (pictures HERE and HERE), I needed Princess Leia to complete the group. Interestingly, Princess Leia never met Obi-Wan Kenobi face-to-face in the film. The Princess was rescued by the trio of Luke, Han and Chewbacca when Obi-Wan went to disable the tractor beam. He ended up duelling with Darth Vader while Luke and company escaped with the Princess. Obi-Wan Kenobi never made it out of the Death Star physically.

Box packaging is the same standard boring black box for all Star Wars 1:6 scale figures. Kudos to Hot Toys for including a second "cover" when the lid is removed. Unfortunately, the Death Star in the background is the one from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi because it is incomplete.

Hot Toys MMS298 "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" 1/6th scale Princess Leia Collectible Figure is specially crafted based on the image of Carrier Fisher as Princess Leia in the film featuring a newly developed head sculpt, detailed hair sculpture of Princess Leia’s iconic hair style, specially tailored costume, two types of blasters, and a figure stand.

The Instruction Sheet covers the figure's head movement and backdrop set up. A special edition is available in selected markets which include a specially designed backdrop as bonus accessory.

It also cautions against taking taking off or putting the outfit back on inappropriately with excessive force as it might damage the outfit.

Here's the Hot Toys MMS298 "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" 1/6th scale Princess Leia Collectible Figure out of her "prison" box. Her costume consists of: a white colored dress, a white colored top, a white colored belt, and a pair of white colored boots. The Star Wars Visual Dictionary states that Princess Leia is wearing the traditional gown of the Alderaan royal family with symbolic belt along with travel boots. A very 1970s look haha

1/6th scale accessories include: Rectangular-shaped figure stand with Princess Leia nameplate and Star Wars logo, three extra interchangeable hands, a blaster rifle and blaster pistol

The blaster rifle that is included is in fact a stolen E-11 BlasTech Standard Imperial Sidearm / Stormtrooper Blaster Rifle which Princess Leia uses in her escape from her cell block when Luke Skywalker and Han Solo went to rescue her disguised as Stormtroopers. The E-11 props were built from the British-made Sterling L2A3 submachine gun. The E-11 blaster rifle features a folding extendable three-position stock and although I don't recall ever seeing it being fired in this manner, it's always nice to know that the rifle can be used in the way it was intended.

In the early scenes of the film, Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) can be seen with a "Drearian Defense Conglomerate Defender sporting blaster pistol". It is actually a Vostok Margolin .22LR target pistol, with some muzzle attachment fitted, selected for its diminutive size, keeping the prop gun from looking too bulky and unwieldy in Fisher's petite hands.

Check out her white boots. The female body Hot Toys uses is a jointed body and not those seamless ones that are all the rage these days. The female seamless body innovated by Phicen Limited features a metal skeleton hidden under the layers of "skin and flesh" and makes the figure look all the more realistic as there are no visible joints. The Phicen seamless figure is also super flexible as shown in the action figure review posted on my toy blog HERE.

The thing behind is a hood / veil that Princess Leia can put over her head. It has wires at the edge to make it "pose-able" but because of the wire structure, it does not fall nicely on her back and looks very untidy and awful. It's no wonder Hot Toys never showed much of her back in the preview pictures because it certainly is a sore point in terms of styling and overall look.

continued from previous toy blog post...

Princess Leia never came across as a damsel in distress. She might be wearing the traditional gown of the Alderaan royal family when she was captured on her consular ship Tantive IV but she was all ready to do battle once Luke Skywalker and Han Solo broke her out of her prison cell. In fact she was the one that got them out of a fix when they were cut off from their only escape route by Stormtroopers once their jail break attempt was discovered. She grabbed a E-11 BlasTech Standard Imperial Sidearm / Stormtrooper Blaster Rifle and shot a hole in a garbage chute and told everyone to dive in to escape the Imperials.

Here's Hot Toys MMS298 "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" 1/6th scale Carrier Fisher as Princess Leia Collectible Figure with the blaster that came with the boxed set. The earlier review covered the Princess with her pistol, a "Drearian Defense Conglomerate Defender sporting blaster pistol". It is actually a Vostok Margolin .22LR target pistol, with some muzzle attachment fitted, selected for its diminutive size, keeping the prop gun from looking too bulky and unwieldy in Fisher's petite hands.

As mentioned in the first part review, the female body Hot Toys uses is a jointed body and not those seamless ones that are all the rage these days. You can clearly see the knee joints at the legs.

Check out the close-up shots of the Hot Toys MMS298 "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" 1/6th scale Carrier Fisher as Princess Leia head sculpt. I doubt it can get any better than this. Kudos to Hot Toys for doing a really fine job with the sculpting.

Underworld: Evolution is a 2006 American action horror film directed by Len Wiseman. It is the second (chronologically, the third) instalment in the Underworld series, following Underworld (2003). The events of the film begin during the same night of the first film's finale. In the film, Selene and Michael fight to protect the future of the Corvinus bloodline from its hidden past.

Bill Nighy is cast as Viktor, a Vampire Elder. Viktor was a Hungarian general and warlord born sometime in the 4th or early 5th century. As he was nearing the end of his life, Markus Corvinus, the first true Vampire, offered immortality in exchange for Viktor's military expertise and army in fighting against the Werewolves, spawn of Markus' own twin brother, William. When Markus turned Viktor, the general became a Vampire Elder. The Death Dealers were created from Viktor's army. Viktor is a ruthless Vampire Elder with his armies loyal to him, he overthrew the original Vampire Markus and set himself up in Vampire myth as the first Vampire. Viktor was the most powerful Vampire ever to have lived mostly because his manipulation, experience, and cunning far surpassed the other Elders. He is killed by Selene who cuts his head in half with his own sword.

Star Ace Toys officially licensed SA-0037 1/6th scale "UnderWorld: Evolution" Viktor Collectible figure features: Fully realized authentic likeness of Viktor in the movie “UNDERWORLD” with accurate facial expression and detailed skin texture | 1:6th scale body, approximately 30 cm tall with over 30 points of articulation | Four (4) interchangeable hands including: One (1) pair of open hands, One (1) right hand for holding Sword / daggers, One (1) left hand for holding daggers.

I think this is the first time I've seen a company produce an older person's body in 1:6 scale with all the wrinkles and saggy skin. Looks very realistic and life-like. Hot Toys Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Arnold Schwarzenegger as T-800 Guardian Collectible Figure certainly didn't show off this body (preview pictures HERE)

Half man, half god… ALL HERO!

Hercules is a 1958 Italian epic fantasy, peplum genre film based upon the Hercules and the Quest for the Golden Fleece myths. The film stars Steve Reeves as the titular hero and Sylva Koscina as his love interest Princess Iole. Hercules made Reeves an international film star and effectively paved the way for the dozens of 1960s peplum (or "sword and sandal") films featuring bodybuilder actors as mythological heroes and gladiators battling monsters, despots, and evil queens.

Hercules’ mother was a mortal, but his father was Zeus, the king of the Greek gods. Jealous of Hercules, Zeus' wife, the goddess Hera, tried to kill him as a baby by sending serpents into his crib. But Hercules was a born fighter and crushed them with his bare hands. Throughout time and around the world, Hercules has been depicted in ancient art, tapestries, statues, paintings, comics, cartoons, and feature films.

Of the countless iterations, there is one that stands out as being the most iconic, indelible and imitated. It is Steve Reeves as Hercules! Reeves iconic portrayal of Hercules set the standard for this heroic character, launched a genre of ‘sword & sandals’ films, and defined the modern day action star.

Hollywood legend Steve Reeves film, stage, and television career spanned three decades. Off screen, Steve Reeves inspired thousands worldwide as an internationally titled bodybuilder, philanthropist, and proponent of health and fitness.

Sylvester Stallone walked out of the theater after seeing Hercules and couldn't believe what he had just seen. He said to himself, "Sly, do you want to be a bum or be like Steve Reeves?”. E&S (Easy & Simple) SKU#26007A Special Mission Unit Tier-1 Operator Bragg and SKU#26007B Special Mission Unit Tier-1 Operator Dam Neck upcoming 12-inch action figures look like they are a pair of warriors caught in a time warp who landed in the wrong galaxy at the wrong time. They both come with a ton of accessories and are sold separately but when you get a good look at their 1/6th scale head sculpts, you might just want to get the pair as a set because a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, they travelled to Naboo to negotiate with the Trade Federation leadership to end a blockade of battleships around the planet. What's most interesting is that they both also come with light sabers ;p

I think E&S is quite clever in coming up with the head sculpts for these two operators. They make a fine pair together although in real life, Liam Neeson would have been much taller than Ewan McGregor. In the 1999 American epic space opera film "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace", Liam Neeson is cast as Qui-Gon Jinn, a Jedi Master and mentor to Obi-Wan Kenobi, played by Ewan McGregor.

Happy July Fourth! Blast from the Past with Independence Day Electronic Alien Attacker

Happy Independence Day to all my American friends :)

Independence Day of the United States, also referred to as the Fourth of July or July Fourth in the U.S., is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by the Continental Congress declaring that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and no longer part of the British Empire.

The film "Independence Day" (sometimes styled as ID4) is a 1996 American epic, science fiction film directed and co-written by Roland Emmerich and starring: Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell, Judd Hirsch, Margaret Colin, Randy Quaid, Robert Loggia, James Rebhorn, Vivica A. Fox and Harry Connick Jr. It focuses on disparate groups of people who converge in the Nevada desert in the aftermath of a calamitous attack by a seemingly powerful extraterrestrial race from an unknown origin and, along with the rest of the human population, participate in a last-chance counterattack on July 4 – the same date as the Independence Day in the United States.

I never imagined that twenty years later, there would be a sequel, "Independence Day: Resurgence" but there is and it was released on June 24, 2016. The film focuses on the battle between ESD (Earth Space Defense), an international military defense and research organization, and the returning alien invaders during the twentieth anniversary of humanity’s first victory against the latter on July 4 – the same date as the Independence Day in the United States. Unlike the first film, there are no toys or movie merchandise to flood the market this time around. Generally, I think most companies are quite cautious of merchandise that tie-in with movies these days and you really don't see a lot of toys being released to go with a movie, unless they are films released by Disney.

This is the Trendmasters ID4 electronic Alien Attack space craft. It was made in 1996 for the independence day movie and features electronic lights and sounds plus an opening cockpit, shooting missiles and dropping bombs. I was pleasantly pleased that the electronic lights and sounds still work :) So glad I remembered to take the batteries out when I decided to display and not play with the electronic features. Never forget the Hot Toy Collecting Tip #1: Remove ALL Batteries! - check out the toy blog post HERE

I also got the Supreme Commander alien figure but it couldn't stand the test of time. The upper body was too heavy for the legs to supprt it and after a period of time, the legs were bent out of shape.

Hot Toys F-18 Hornet Pilot "Alan J Nance" looks a lot like Will Smith as CPT Steven Hiller in ID4

continued from previous toy blog post...

Hot Toys released this F-18 Hornet Pilot "Alan J Nance" (the head sculpt bears a resemblance to Will Smith who acted as F/A-18 pilot CPT Steven Hiller in the movie "Independence Day or ID4") together with an F-14 Tomcat "Jack Carter" pilot figure (Tom Cruise in "Top Gun" - action figure review posted HERE) way back in the year 2000. These two figures were Hot Toys' first 12-inch figures to be released into the market. Hot Toys has certainly come a long way since.

Will Smith went from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to F-18 Hornet Pilot in 1996 with the release of Independence Day. The film was a massive blockbuster, becoming the second highest grossing film in history at the time and establishing Smith as a prime box office draw. This 1/6th scale F-18 pilot figure, though released in 2000, seems to have withstood the test of time. The 12-inch figure still looks as good now and has all the nice details one would expect from a combat pilot figure.

The head sculpt may not as good or even close to today's high standards but with the helmet over the head, one can't really tell ;p
