Action figure review part 1: ThreeZero 1/6th scale 2014 RoboCop 1.0 (12.5-inch) collectible figure

This is from my most recent haul (see my toy blog post HERE)

This action figure review is all about the ThreeZero 1/6th scale 2014 RoboCop 1.0 collectible action figure from the movie of the same name. RoboCop is a 2014 American cyberpunk action film directed by José Padilha and written by Joshua Zetumer. It is a remake of the 1987 film of the same name and reboot of the RoboCop franchise. The film stars Joel Kinnaman in the title role, with Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish and Jackie Earle Haley in supporting roles. I have also reviewed the Square Enix Play Arts Kai 1/7th scale RoboCop 2014 version 1.0 action figure on my toy blog HERE, HERE and HERE. The scale may be slightly smaller in comparison for the Play Arts Kai version but the quality between the two is like East and West and definitely very different. Needless to say, 1/6th scale beats everything else in quality. Basically, one is a toy (Play Arts Kai) and the other is a collectible!

ThreeZero 1/6th scale RoboCop 1.0 details: fully articulated figure; figure stands approximately 12.5 inches (around 32cm) tall; highly detailed mechanical design; helmet features LED light-up visor; realistic paint application highlighting the details; both Stun gun and Machine gun can pop out from left and right built-in holsters; both guns can be manually extended; 3 kinds of interchangeable hands - relaxed hands, fists and gun holding hands; AG1 X 3 button cell batteries are required (batteries not included).

Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman), a police officer injured in a car bomb explosion, is chosen by OmniCorp to be outfitted with a cybernetic body and software, making him the first cyborg cop to be deployed for civilian law enforcement in the United States. The new 2014 RoboCop film (a reboot of the 1987 classic) introduces us first to the stunning RoboCop version 1.0, a look inspired by the original film, while at the same time, making the robot suit more modern and refined.

Box packaging is rather nice with a picture of his chest and torso on the front of the box and his back featured on the back of the box. The pictures show off the nice details found on the figure.

The ThreeZero 1/6th scale 2014 RoboCop 1.0 figure and his accessories are all laid out in one tray for easy removal. Mine is the non exclusive version which comes without the alternate head sculpt.

ThreeZero 1/6th scale 2014 RoboCop 1.0 Instruction Manual shows you how to remove the helmet and where to put in the batteries (NOT included) as well as how to position his weapons into his built-in thigh holsters

The picture below shows the extra hands that are included as well as two sets of weapons. One set is designed to be placed into his thigh holsters which can pop out. These weapons (shown on the left of the picture) are rather thin depth-wise and looks good only inside the built-in thigh holsters. The actual weapons to be placed in his hands are the ones on the right of the picture below.

RoboCop (Joel Kinnaman) carries a customized pistol, which Mattox (Jackie Earle Haley), OmniCorp armorer and RoboCop's trainer, called the "TSR 66", as his main sidearm in the film. The pistol is a Beretta with a custom shell that was created using a 3D printer. The custom Beretta Pistol (NI-408) fires non-lethal (50,000 Volt) and lethal (200,000 Volt) XREP taser cartridges. That is the one at the top in the picture below. RoboCop also uses a customized SMG / Sub-Machine Gun (heavily modified and fictional .50 caliber) in the film as his main firearm. The weapon has a custom shell like the TSR 66 pistol and lacks a trigger guard (shown at the bottom of below picture).

Here's the ThreeZero 1/6th scale 2014 RoboCop 1.0 (12.5-inch) collectible figure out of the box. Definitely looks much better than the Play Arts Kai 1/7th scale version by Square Enix. The original 1987 RoboCop was based on a more “robotic” approach to design, slow and stiff (albeit with superhuman strength), and featured a silver color scheme. Taking advantage of modern robotics and near-future cybernetics, the 2014 RoboCop in Padilha’s reboot is much more agile – even capable of leaping into the air. While Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) remarks that “there’s nothing left” of his human body, both his face and right hand remain visible. While the traditional silver suit appears in the 2014 film (as version 1.0), it was altered so that 2014 RoboCop would sport a “tactical” black color scheme. After the final battle, RoboCop returns to the fan-favorite silver design. Personally I prefer version 1.0 which is why I got this.

Check out the turnaround views.

Scroll to see the close-up shots taken of the head sculpt (helmeted head). While this ThreeZero 1/6th scale version of RoboCop is way better than the 1/7th scale Play Arts Kai version, one cannot help but feel that if Hot Toys had gotten the movie license, they could have made this a whole lot better. ThreeZero's RoboCop feels more "plasticky" and toy-like in hand than Hot Toys 1987 RoboCop. Hot Toys released both the die-cast version as well as the non die-cast battle damaged version (comparing apple with apple) and the finishing and quality for both figures are stunning and way better than this. ThreeZero's paintwork, finishing and joints are just below par when compared with Hot Toys standard.

And now for the built-in thigh holsters. When you press a button on either side, the holsters pop out so that you can fit the weapons into them. Because space is a constraint, they could not make the weapons regular sized which meant compromising on the depth / thickness of the weapons. They look like they have been flattened :(

Check out the close-up pictures of the left-side built-in thigh holster for storing the customized SMG

See how thin they have to make the SMG in order for it to fit inside the built-in thigh holster

The front part (barrel portion) of the SMG can be pushed in / retracted so as to fit the holster platform (see the pictures above and below)

Now for close-up pictures showing how RoboCop's customized pistol, the "TSR 66", is stored in the right-side built-in thigh holster

See how they flattened the pistol grip till it's only a few millimeters thick

The pictures above and below show RoboCop's customized pistol, the "TSR 66", extended and retracted in the built-in right thigh holster. The barrel and pistol grip are collapsible so that they fit inside the holster platform.

Review II: ThreeZero 1/6th scale 2014 RoboCop 1.0 12.5-inch / 32 cm tall collectible figure

continued from previous toy blog post...

This second-part action figure review of ThreeZero 1/6th scale 2014 RoboCop 1.0 12.5-inch / 32 cm tall collectible figure shows off the figure with his weapons, the "TSR 66" stun gun and customized SMG / Sub-Machine Gun (heavily modified and fictional .50 caliber) as seen in the 2014 film. Alternate versions of the guns designed to fit into the left and right built-in thigh holsters are also included and covered in the first-part review posted HERE. Unlike the original 1987 RoboCop on which the film was based (a remake / reboot of the original which has become a cult classic), this updated RoboCop model carries more than one weapon and chose to steer away from the ultra-violent action which was part of the reason RoboCop was rated R: the customized Beretta Pistol (which is the "TSR 66") fires XREP taser cartridges – meaning that, in certain situations, he can take down offenders without killing them.

This reboot RoboCop has both his face and right hand kept intact to make him appear more human than robot. I question the decision to keep his hand because that would become the weak link to his new cyborg body. In the original, scientists managed to salvage Alex Murphy’s arm but OCP Executive Robert "Bob" Morton instructed them to replace it anyway – making Murphy’s face the only organic part that is still visible as RoboCop.

ThreeZero is the company officially licensed to produce and release 1/6th scale movie-related merchandise from the 2014 RoboCop film and I'm glad for that as I cannot imagine what would have happened if the license was given to Medicom Toy. I would certainly not have pre-ordered anything from Medicom as they have shown time and again that their 1/6th scale figures are underscale (undersized) and very expensive (not value-for-money). That said, one does wonder how this figure would have turned out if the license had been given to Hot Toys instead. ThreeZero's RoboCop feels more "plasticky" and toy-like in hand when compared with Hot Toys 1987 RoboCop or any of Hot Toys armored figures. I don't mean to compare it with Hot Toys die-cast figures but just to the regular MMS figures which have been given a metallic paint job. ThreeZero's paintwork, finishing and joints are just a bit off and below par when compared with Hot Toys standard. I'm still glad I got this figure, just pondering the "what ifs".

ThreeZero's 1/6th scale RoboCop 1.0 features: fully articulated figure; figure stands approximately 12.5 inches (around 32cm) tall; highly detailed mechanical design; helmet features LED light-up visor; realistic paint application highlighting the details; both Stun gun and Machine gun can pop out from left and right built-in holsters; both guns can be manually extended; 3 kinds of interchangeable hands - relaxed hands, fists and gun holding hands; AG1 X 3 button cell batteries are required (batteries not included).

ThreeZero's gun holding hands differ from all other 1:6 scale manufacturers in that the trigger finger is not bent but straightened. In the real world, disciplined and well-trained soldiers keep their trigger finger outside the trigger guard unless they are fired upon. Only then will they put their fingers in to squeeze the trigger. That said, it's nicer to see a 12-inch figure with his finger on the trigger as it gives the sense of action rather than having the finger outside in a passive-aggressive stance. I just prefer my figures that way.

Articulation is also not so good because of the way this 1:6 scale RoboCop is built. There is no waist articulation at all which means that the figure cannot be put into a lot of poses because of the lack of a waist joint. Most poses are confined to a straight torso and not much else. The funny thing is: this 2014 RoboCop is much more agile in the film, taking full advantage of modern robotics and near-future cybernetics which were not available back in 1987 when the original was made. Unfortunately, that's not happening with this 12-inch version by ThreeZero.

Red Sonja, the She-Devil with a Sword, is a fictional character, a high fantasy sword and sorcery heroine created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith, and loosely based on Red Sonya of Rogatino in Robert E. Howard's 1934 short story "The Shadow of the Vulture". She first appeared in the Marvel Comics book Conan the Barbarian #23 (February 1973). Red Sonja became the archetypal fantasy figure of a fierce and beautiful female barbarian.

Red Sonja - outlaw, mercenary, warrior and queen. After escaping her bloody origin, she hunted the wilderlands of Hyrkania, theived the streets and palaces of Pah-Disha, sold her sword on battlefields from Koth to Aquilonia, and liberated countless mugs of ale from barrels throughout the Hyborean world. Red Sonja slew the king who tried to posses her and freed the world from the dark sourcery of Kulan Gathe. Forced to flee her homeland, she rode west across the Turanian Steppes and into the shadowed mists of legendry.

continued from previous toy blog post...

“Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.”

What's better than having two different 1:6 scale RoboCops, one from the original 1987 film and the other from the 2014 re-boot? Put them together for pictures of course! Pictured below and for the rest of this toy blog post are the two recently released and most current RoboCop 12-inch figures, the ThreeZero 1/6th scale 2014 RoboCop 1.0 12.5-inch / 32cm tall collectible figure and Hot Toys MMS202-D04 1/6th scale Die-cast RoboCop 30cm tall Collectible Figure. Hot Toys had previously produced and released at least three versions of RocoCop (MMS010 - action figure review posted HERE, MMS026 and MMS032 - pictures HERE) and two versions of ED209 (MMS012 - reviewed HERE and MMS025) but that was a long time ago and standards have improved a lot since then, hence the release of the die-cast RoboCop (pictured below and reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE) plus the battle-damaged RoboCop with Alex Murphy two-figure set (reviewed HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE). Comparison pictures also can be seen HERE and HERE.

2014 RoboCop director José Padilha avoids direct comparisons between his RoboCop and Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 film – attempting to honor the original by forging a significantly different direction for the reboot. Still, longtime fans will without question notice a few knowing nods to the 1987 film. RoboCop starts in the traditional silver / grey suit until OmniCorp CEO Raymond Sellars (Michael Keaton) decides an all-black “tactical” version would make for a better “product.” After the final battle, RoboCop returns to the fan-favorite silver / grey design. And that's why I got the ThreeZero 1/6th scale 2014 RoboCop 1.0 collectible figure as I much prefer the silver and black color scheme.

Scroll down to see all the pictures.

In the original 1987 film, in addition to super strength and durability, one of RoboCop’s most iconic features was his gun holster – a mechanized compartment inside his right thigh that opened to reveal a single modified Beretta 93R “Auto 9.” The machine pistol was heavily altered for RoboCop (with a longer barrel as well as a reported 50-round magazine) – fired in three-round bursts. The 2014 reboot RoboCop had two internal thigh holsters, and takes advantage of different firearms depending on the situation – including a custom Beretta Pistol (NI-408) that fired non-lethal (50,000 Volt) and lethal (200,000 Volt) XREP taser cartridges, a heavily modified (and fictional) .50 caliber RoboCop SMG, as well as a Heckler & Koch MP7A1 submachine gun.

Here's another look at Hot Toys MMS202-D04 die-cast RoboCop (pictured below and reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE)

And the recently released ThreeZero 1/6th scale 2014 RoboCop 1.0 (12.5-inch) collectible figure (posted on my toy blog HERE and HERE)

Toys Era 1:6 scale The Telepath looks a lot like James McAvoy as Charles Xavier / Professor X

X-Men: Days of Future Past is a 2014 American superhero film based on the fictional X-Men characters that appear in Marvel Comics. Directed by Bryan Singer, it is the seventh installment of the X-Men film series and acts as a sequel to both 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand and 2011's X-Men: First Class. The story, inspired by the 1981 Uncanny X-Men storyline "Days of Future Past" by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, focuses on two time periods, with Wolverine traveling back in time to 1973 to save the future of mankind.

James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart both portray Charles Xavier / Professor X, the world's most powerful mutant telepath. Singer described the younger Xavier as "a very different beast from First Class's feckless playboy. He's a wounded animal, bearded, long-haired, filled with rage at the way the world has treated him."

Toys Era 1:6 scale The Telepath 12-inch figure features: Head sculpt with detailed wrinkles and skin texture, Each piece of head sculpt is specially hand painted; Muscular figure Body with over 30 points of articulation, approximately 32cm tall; Hand assortment, Silk embroidered long sleeve shirt, Slim fit Jacket, Dark blue paints, Leather like belt, Black shoes, Extra-large figure stand

When Ben Affleck was cast as the latest Batman, most people wrote him off, saying "how could the devil play the bat?" referring to Affleck's role as Daredevil years before. Now that the movie is drawing nearer, the negative voices seem to have quieted down a lot, especially after the recent success of Deadpool, where Ryan Reynolds who failed as Green Lantern rises from the ashes to become Wade Wilson and brought down the box office with his stellar performance. Scarcely less renowned than the Knights Templars, the Teutonic Knights carried the spirit and traditions of the great military religious orders of the Middle Ages far into the modern period. The Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem, commonly the Teutonic Order, is a Catholic religious order originally founded as military order in the 12th century in Acre. Purely religious since 1929, it still confers limited honorary knighthoods. The order was formed to aid Christians on their pilgrimages to the Holy Land and to establish hospitals. Its members have commonly been known as the Teutonic Knights, having a small voluntary and mercenary military membership, serving as a crusading military order for protection of Christians in the Holy Land and the Baltics during the Middle Ages.

ACI 1/6th scale Teutonic Knight - Noble Knight Banner Holder Features: Bullhorned great helmet (bullhorn made of plastic), Pair of Knights greaves (Die-cast metal), Chain mail hauberk and Chain mail coif (both made of plastic fabric, not real metal chain), Chain mail chausses (made of plastic fabric, not real metal chain), Teutonic Knight surcoat, Teutonic Knight cloak, Gambeson, Breeches, Spur, Lance with banner (Die-cast Metal Lance tip), Battle axe, Spiked-flail, Great sword (Die-cast metal blade) with scabbard and baldric, Shield with holding straps, Detailed sculpted head (Battle-wouned), Extra fake head, with chain mail coif (made of plastic fabric) fixed on the head, for wearing helmet, Body: Medium built body - Christian, New improved version, over 30 points of articulation, Gloved hand x 2 pairs (Left Pointing, Right: Fist, Left and Right: Grabbing).

Hot Toys Star Wars: The Force Awakens 1/6th First Order TIE Pilot collectible figure review 1

The TIE/LN starfighter, commonly known as the TIE fighter, was the signature starfighter of the Galactic Empire, with a later model being used by the First Order. They were instantly recognizable from the roar of their engines and carried locator beacons enabling them to be found by the Empire.

First Order TIE Fighter Pilots were skilled pilots who served the First Order, hunting down enemy vessels and protecting space around installations and warships in their advanced TIE fighters. The new generation of TIE fighter pilots undergo rigorous training from childhood, and most grow up within the corridors of Star Destroyers, becoming intimately familiar with starship operations. The First Order maintains strict standards of reflexes, visual acuity and hand-eye coordination.

This is the recently released Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS324 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale The First Order TIE Pilot Collectible Figure - see the haul posted on my toy blog HERE. This first-part action figure review covers the packaging and figure which features: Authentic and detailed likeness of First Order TIE Pilot in Star Wars: The Force Awakens with Approximately 30 cm tall Body with over 30 points of articulations; Eight (8) pieces of interchangeable gloved palms including: a pair of fists, a pair of relaxed palms, a pair of palms for holding weapons, a gripping right palm, a gesturing left palm.

Star Wars boxed figures always come in a black box with a picture of the figure in front. There is no exception for the First Order TIE Pilot collectible figure. However, Hot Toys has managed to sneak in another alternate "cover" over the tray which holds the figure and its accessories, and this inner piece is designed to show what Hot Toys could have done if they had a hand in designing the cover.

Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS324 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale The First Order TIE Pilot Collectible Figure doesn't come with much accessories.

The Instruction Sheet is also rather brief: Be careful when turning the head so as not to damage the gas transfer hose which has metal wires embedded inside. The armor parts are non-detachable. The straps (ejection harness) are non-detachable.

Accessories include: First Order emblem hexagonal figure stand with First Order TIE Pilot nameplate and Star Wars logo, extra gloved hands for posing and a Sonn-Blas SE-44C officer's blaster pistol. The officer's edition of the standard stormtrooper sidearm is cast in dark plasteel as opposed to the white body of the infantry version. Check out the Stormtrooper pistol posted on my blog HERE.

The First Order TIE Pilot uniform / costume consists of: newly designed glossy black color First Order TIE Pilot helmet and armor with life support system, black color flight suit, belt with pouches, and a pair of black boots. Interestingly enough, there is no holster for his pistol. Check out the turnaround views of this stunning Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS324 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale The First Order TIE Pilot Collectible Figure.

Check out the close-up pictures of the beautifully produced Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS324 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale The First Order TIE Pilot Collectible Figure. He wears a complete vac-seal flight helmet with targeting sensors located on top of the helmet. It's not a visor that can slide down over his eyes even though it looks that way. There is a tiny screw that sticks out on the right side of the helmet where his ears would be and two tiny brackets located just to the sides. What are they there for? I do not know.

The gas transfer hose connects the helmet to the life support pack / gear which is secured on his chest. The older Imperial TIE-fighter pilots had two hoses going into the life support pack. The black color flight suit is supposed to be a flexible vac-suit or vacuum g-suit. There are two ejection harnesses that run down each leg which stop just at the knees.

PHICEN Limited 1/6th scale Female Sparta Warrior Action Figure: what will they think of next

The Spartan army stood at the centre of the Spartan state, whose male and female citizens were trained in the discipline and honor of the warrior society. Subject to military drill from early manhood, the Spartans were one of the most feared military forces in the Greek world. At the height of Sparta's power – between the 6th and 4th centuries BC – it was commonly accepted that "one Spartan was worth several men of any other state." The term "spartan" became synonymous with fearlessness, harsh and cruel life, endurance or simplicity by design.

Fast forward to these modern times where anything can happen and today we see images of a female Sparta Warrior action figure, a fantasy figure designed to pander to many a male's fantasy LOL. The Spartans we saw in the 2007 American epic fantasy war film "300" went to battle topless so how come this female Sparta warrior has upper body armor on her ;p Surpringly, she wears even less in the nether regions! Looking at the parts available, one can see the possibility of a Wonder Woman kitbash with some imagination.

PHICEN Limited 1/6th scale Female Sparta Warrior Action Figure will come with 1/6th scale female head sculpt, Phicen female seamless body with stainless steel armature, 3 pairs x interchangeable hands, cape with a necklace decoration, chest guard, battle shorts, lower arm guards, calf guards, shoes, battle sword, shield, spear, base, 4-color packaging

Images of Play-Arts Kai Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice 1:7 Armored Batman Figure

Square Enix has officially released photos of their upcoming Play-Arts Kai "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" Armored Batman figure.

From Square Enix:
In the film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Bruce Wayne creates an armored suit, assembling the full might of mankind's technology, shoring up the strength of Earthlings against the might of the powers of the alien Superman.

The hulking and heroic appearance of that suit has been recreated here as a Play Arts KAI action figure. Square Enix has carefully contrasted the hard metallic edges with flowing organic details of cloth-like texturing on the cape. Tiny nicks, scratches and weathering on the armor show Batman's battle scars. His eyes, painted with a pearlescent paint, look almost as if they are glowing. All these details and more make it seem as if Batman is in the midst of battle with Superman. The deep emotions springing from beneath his heavy armor can be expressed through a wide range of action poses. He is well-prepared, with accessories including a grenade launcher and various interchangeable hand pieces. Figure also includes display stand.

Hot Toys Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 1/6th Armored Batman (Black Chrome Version)

“This bat vigilante, he's like a one man reign of terror.”

Since the release of the latest trailer, fans around the world are getting even more excited to witness the epic show down between Batman and Superman in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice debuting this month! Today, Hot Toys is very excited to officially present a special black chrome colored version of the Armored Batman 1/6th scale collectible figure to celebrate the movie launch!

This collectible figure, only available in selected markets, is specially crafted based on the image of Ben Affleck as Armored Batman from the film featuring an armored head with LED light-up eyes and two interchangeable lower faces, meticulously sculpted and specially applied black chrome colored armor, detailed Batman weapons, and a Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice themed figure stand.

I didn't think it was possible but Hot Toys has managed to do it. They have found ways to create more than one version of Armored Batman, just like how they have done it for Iron Man all these years, just to spice things up a little for the collectible market and make poor "completist" collectors pay more for a complete collection where they can own one of every thing / every kind of Hot Toys figure there are. As for me, I'm just happy to have the regular version which is the movie version - see the preview pictures posted on my toy blog HERE

PHICEN Ltd unveils 1/6th scale Super-Flexible Male Seamless Body: And it looks really good!

From Phicen:
Boasting human-like skin texture, and being super flexible, posable and durable, Phicen’s first male seamless body PL2015-M30, of muscular build, has enjoyed great popularity since it’s debut. With honor, here we introduce you, dear clients, to our 2nd seamless male body, PL2015-M31. Similarly it’s anatomically correct, but different from the 1st one, it’s of regular build and taller, which stands approximately 31cm.

Its internal skeleton armature is also made from durable stainless steel to withstand playability without being easily damaged or corrupted. Each armature has 26 points of articulation, using ball-jointed system, for maximum flexibility and movement. Each joint is designed to move freely and consistently with 90% accuracy. With the slightest effort, this body is capable of making countless dynamic poses to imitate any posture of any character.

The stainless steel armature is wrapped with a non-toxic, environmentally friendly medical-grade material specially developed for Phicen bodies. The material features durable, anti-cracking qualities that are easy to clean, but not easy to stain or dye. Additionally, the skin texture is designed to deliver a tactile experience of real skin.

I have the FIRST Phicen Limited PL2015-M30 1:6 scale Super-Flexible 12-inch Male Seamless Body and can tell you that I was blown away by the figure - see the action figure review posted on my toy blog HERE. First thing I did was put the figure into the iconic superhero landing pose which Deadpool makes fun of as the iconic superhero landing pose has been used by everyone from Iron Man to Thor to Ant-Man in the Marvel Studios films. Phicen Limited PL2015-M30 1:6 scale Super-Flexible 12-inch Male Seamless Body is the first body that has no problems making that pose and does it with ease!

Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures.
Click on them for bigger and better views.

While built for playability, this Phicen seamless figure body is NOT a toy - it is a sophisticated 1:6 scale model designed to realistically simulate the real human by using superior materials and quality execution. Anatomically correct though, it’s not designed to be a sex toy either. You’ll find this PL2015-M31 a perfect product, widely used in character design, cos-play, modeling, photography, painting, anatomy, or simply figure collection.

The PHICEN Ltd PL2015-M31 1/6th scale Super-Flexible Male Seamless Body does not come with a head sculpt, but its skin tone matches that of most head sculpts from big 1:6 scale action figure companies.

The first Super-Flexible Male Seamless Body was more muscular and looks a lot like a body builder whereas this latest reveal looks more like a regular guy who is fit but not overly muscular. The first body was shorter at 29cm whereas this newer body will be 31cm tall.

PHICEN 1/6th La Muerta Female Action Figure is “Day of the Dead” The Crow meets Death Wish

$

Phicen is on a roll. They have been releasing preview pictures of their upcoming releases and products over the past couple of days and here's another one: PHICEN 1/6th scale La Muerta Action Figure. La Muerta is a 48-page graphic novel, written by Mike MacLean and illustrated by Joel Gomez and Ceci de la Cruz. It’s a “Day of the Dead” version of The Crow meets Death Wish. Female Punisher also comes to mind ;p

La Muerta is the story Maria Diaz, a US soldier returning from a tour of duty in Afghanistan to be reunited with her family on Dia de los Muertos, the day of the dead. But her brother has fallen in with The Zavalas, a death-worshipping crime cartel led by the nefarious Mama Z. When they see the family celebrating, they believe they’ve been ripped off by them. The entire family is murdered in cold blood.

Maria wakes out of a coma eight months later to find her family dead and gone. She seeks justice from the police, but she finds none: they are all in league with the crime cult. Daring the impossible, Maria – aided by the mysterious Faustino – decides to avenge her family and send the Zavala’s to hell, even at the cost of her own humanity.

What I like about this latest female action figure preview is that she doesn't wear hot pants or attempt to expose her boobs like so many other fantasy figures. She is actually quite covered up and there's actually an appeal in that. Not all female figures / characters need to expose their assets to get attention and even though Phicen is well known for their seamless body, it doesn't mean that they must expose the body all the time to get sales. This works too.

Review II: Hot Toys "Star Wars The Force Awakens" 1/6th First Order TIE Pilot action figure

continued from previous toy blog post...

The First Order TIE Pilot comes armed with a Sonn-Blas SE-44C officer's blaster pistol but there is no holster for said weapon, unlike the First Order Stormtroopers who holster their pistols on their right thighs - see my action figure review of the Hot Toys MMS317 Star Wars: The Force Awakens 1:6th scale First Order Stormtrooper Collectible Figure HERE. The officer's edition of the standard stormtrooper sidearm is cast in dark plasteel as opposed to the white body of the infantry version. It would certainly look odd for the all black clad TIE Pilot to be holding a black-and-white pistol.

Why a pistol? Taking a leaf from the current practise for fighter pilots who may get shot down in enemy territory or find themselves being stuck on the ground after ejecting from their aircraft or landing in unfamiliar and dangerous territory, it's good to be armed just in case. Of course pilots also have their survival kit which is designed to help them survive while waiting for rescue from hostile terrains. So I guess the same holds true for TIE Pilots.

Here's the Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS324 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale The First Order TIE Pilot Collectible Figure armed with his Sonn-Blas SE-44C officer's blaster pistol, the only real accessory he comes with, not counting the extra gloved hands and the figure display stand. This figure has more articulation than Hot Toys First Order Stormtrooper which is limited in his poses because of the black leather suit he wears underneath his armor (see my review posted HERE). The TIE pilot's black suit (supposedly flexible vac-suit or vacuum g-suit - fancy names to make it sound sci-fi) is made of a softer material (almost like the material used to make windbreakers / raincoats). There are two ejection harnesses that run down each leg, stopping just at the knees. The helmet and armor are all very nicely done with a hose (gas transfer hose) connecting the helmet to his chest / life support pack.
