March 2016 Haul: Ashigaru Sandtrooper, 1/6th scale Agent Hunter and Maintenance Technician

My latest toy haul (March 2016): VTS Toys 1/6th scale Agent Hunter 12-inch action figure (most likely inspired by Tom Cruise' character as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in the "Mission Impossible" films), Play Toy P007 1/6th scale Maintenance Technician 12-inch action figure (who looks a lot like Tom Cruise as Commander Jack Harper in the 2013 post-apocalyptic science fiction film OBLIVION and the Bandai Tamashii Exclusive Movie Realization Teppo Ashigaru Sandtrooper action figure. I'm quite the Tom Cruise fan, so much so I even have a "Tom Cruise" label on my toy blog for all the Tom Cruise related action figures. That being said, I also have labels for Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Johnny Depp and Harrison Ford because there are so many 1:6 scale figures released with these movie stars' looks / head sculpts. These stars usually play "action heroes" in films, hence action figures of them are produced for the 12-inch figure collectible market. There are a lot of them now than when I first started collecting 1:6 scale action figures way back in 1994.

The Bandai Tamashii Exclusive Movie Realization Star Wars action figures have been rather popular and I for one am certainly hooked on them. I don't collect smaller sized figures because I like the realism found in 1:6 scale figures but I just find the whole concept of Star Wars characters being given a feudal Japan twist very refreshing, especially since the designs are really nice and well executed. I have already reviewed the Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ashigaru Stormtrooper action figure on my toy blog HERE and HERE, followed by the Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization 7-inch tall Ronin Kenzan Boba Fett action figure review HERE and HERE. I have also gotten the Bandai Star Wars Movie Realization Samurai Taisho Darth Vader 18 cm action figure (see my October 2015 toy haul post HERE) but have yet to post pictures.

Oblivion is a 2013 post-apocalyptic science fiction film based on Joseph Kosinski's unpublished graphic novel of the same name. The film is about a future in which the Earth has been mostly destroyed by aliens, and humans are relocating to a colony off earth. One of the last humans left on Earth is Jack Harper (Tom Cruise), a technician with a memory wipe who is troubled by dreams of an unknown woman. After a spacecraft crashes with the woman from his dreams on board, and Harper finds other humans alive in the ruins of the cities, Harper begins to doubt the truth of the mission he is on.

This is the Play Toy P007 1/6th scale Maintenance Technician 12-inch action figure. The head sculpt, outfit and weapons all look a lot like they came out of the movie. I guess you could say this Technician is from the year 2077. Check out the preview pictures HERE

Play Toy P007 1/6th scale Maintenance Technician 12-inch figure aka Oblivion's Jack Harper comes with: Tom Cruise Head Sculpt (see picture below), Male Body, Goggles, Pants, Jacket, Boots, Belt, Rifle, Sling, Pistol, Holster, Hand Assortment

Next up is the VTS Toys 1/6th scale Agent Hunter 12-inch figure. Not wanting to raise any alarms, the box packaging does not give any hint of what's inside or who's inside. VTS is the movie arm of DAM Toys, the company which produces excellent 12-inch military figures as well as the 1:6 scale figures from their Gangster Series. I have quite a few of their action figures and I like the high quality they used in making their figures.

VTS Toys (VM-012) 1/6th scale Agent Hunter 12-inch figure (Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt) comes with real like head sculpt, 12-inch action body, one (1) pair of hands, tactical gloved hands x 3. Costume / uniform consists of: black top / shirt, black jeans / pants, long sleeve tee, BDU belt, combat boots, tactical body armor / assault vest.

You can compare the VTS Agent Hunter 1:6 scale Tom Cruise head sculpt with the one released by Play Toy in the pictures posted above.

The weapons and accessories to equip this 1/6th scale Agent Hunter 12-inch figure are laid out in the bottom tray. All these should go on nicely on the figure. You can check out the preview pictures HERE

Last but not least, a sneak peek at the Bandai Tamashii Exclusive Movie Realization Teppo Ashigaru Sandtrooper action figure. Inspired by the Imperial Sandtroopers seen in the Star Wars movies, these Sandtroopers of feudal Japan come with a special backpack designed with meticulous detail and finished with a rusty look. The Flexible material makes posing the Sandtrooper holding a firearm a breeze and the boxed set includes six additional interchangeable hands, Blaster rifles (small and large) and Japanese katana set.

Action Figure reviews to come shortly so stay tuned :)

Hot Toys "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" 1/6th scale Kylo Ren Collectible Figure Review 1

$

This action figure review is from my first haul of 2016, posted on my toy blog earlier HERE

A dark warrior strong with the Force, Kylo Ren commands First Order missions with a temper as fiery as his unconventional lightsaber. As a leader of the First Order and a student of Supreme Leader Snoke, he seeks to destroy the New Republic, the Resistance and the legacy of the Jedi. He built his own lightsaber, a dangerous and ragged design, using an unstable kyber crystal, making the blade distorted and crackle unlike that of a typical lightsaber, and started wearing a metal helmet based on designs used by the Knights of Ren. According to J. J. Abrams, "Kylo Ren is not a Sith. He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force." Kylo Ren is the archetype of a new generation of dark side users that have emerged to fill the void left by the Sith's demise.

When the first trailer for the latest Star wars film was revealed, the crossguard lightsaber belonging to Kylo Ren was one of the highlights and talking points. Not much else was shown of the character but we all knew right away who the bad guy was. There's always one main villain to look out for in any Star Wars film. It started with Darth Vader in the original Star Wars and then there was Darth Maul with his double-bladed lightsaber in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. So we were all pretty excited with this new bad boy in Episode VII. All we had was a glimpse of a new kind of lightsaber belonging to a new villain because red was the color reserved for lightsabers of the Sith and their apprentice in Star Wars.

Scroll down to see all the pictures.
Click on them for bigger and better views.

The standard black color box packaging is applied for all Star Wars products and Hot Toys has included an additional inner flap with a picture of Kylo Ren inside the box before the tray that reveals the box contents.

Hot Toys MMS320 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale Kylo Ren Collectible Figure comes with: Authentic and detailed likeness of Kylo Ren as seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens with finely crafted Kylo Ren’s helmet with weathering effects; An approximately 33 cm tall body with over 30 points of articulations; Seven pieces of interchangeable gloved palms including: a pair of fists, a pair of relaxed palms, a pair of palms for holding lightsaber, and a gesturing left palm.

There is also the Instruction Sheet which tells you how to put the hood on Kylo Ren and how to activate the LED-light up lightsaber right arm. The light up arm is an innovative concept by Hot Toys to enable 12-inch action figures to have 1:6 scale light up lightsabers, something that was not possible until recently. This was covered in my earlier action figure review of Hot Toys MMS297 Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope 1/6th scale Luke Skywalker collectible figure posted on my toy blog HERE, HERE and HERE.

There are also instructions on how to switch the light up lightsaber arm with the regular arm and caution about non-detachable parts of Kylo Ren's costume which are not meant to be removed.

Hot Toys MMS320 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Kylo Ren Collectible Figure 1/6th scale accessories laid out: First Order emblem hexagonal figure stand with Kylo Ren nameplate and Star Wars logo, five extra interchangeable gloved hands, Kylo Ren's lightsaber and LED-light up lightsaber right arm (batteries included).

A closer look at Kylo Ren’s lightsaber hilt with weathering effects plus removable plasma blades which can be inserted into the LED-light up lightsaber right arm for greater effect. His lightsaber, based on an ancient design dating back to the Great Scourge of Malachor, relied upon a cracked kyber crystal that could barely contain the power of the weapon, necessitating the lateral plasma vents that produced its signature crossguard quillons. The fractured crystal was also responsible for the unstable, serrated appearance of the weapon's red plasma blades. The crossguard exhaust ports were also useful in combat when fighting up close, as seen in the film.

Kylo Ren's outfit consists of quite a few layers: a black basket weave pattern top coat, a black mid coat with accordion sleeves, black short under-tunic, black long under-tunic, pair of black pants, black belt and black boots. You wouldn't be able to tell because of the top coat which covers everything underneath but I'm glad Hot Toys stayed faithful and reproduce all the layers even though most of it would be covered up. You can tell from the picture below that Kylo Ren's pants are made from a material similar to those used for raincoats, shiny and waterproof.

Here's Hot Toys MMS320 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale Kylo Ren Collectible Figure in a walking pose to show off what's under the black basket weave pattern top coat. Check out the turnaround views.

Scroll down to see the close-up pictures of Hot Toys MMS320 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale Kylo Ren Collectible Figure

Kylo Ren wore a black hood and cloak, a dark mask, and wielded a dangerous and unstable lightsaber he had personally constructed. Ren wore a mask and helmet that altered his voice much like Darth Vader, his idol. However, unlike Vader, who needed a mask to keep him alive and hide a severely burned physique, Ren did not physically require the use of a mask.

J. J. Abrams approved the design of Kylo Ren's mask after numerous attempts. The Force Awakens costume designer Michael Kaplan said, "I don't know if it was the kind of spaghetti type lines on it or what, but the next time J.J. came by that was what we presented to him and he loved it. Also the silver in those lines kind of reflects and changes color with the action. You know, if he's standing in front of fire you see that, so it almost brings you into the mask."

Patterned after the battle gear of the Knights of the Ren,  the mask conceals Kylo Ren's identity and adds to his imposing demeanour. The silver inlay radiates from the eyes as a symbol of power and the integrated vocabulator projects Ren's voice. The mask is battle-damaged, as is his hood and cloak, singed from multiple battles.

continued from previous toy blog post...

Kylo Ren is the most gifted apprentice of Supreme Leader Snoke, a mysterious figure steeped in Dark Side knowledge who commands the First Order from a distance. The dark side flows through Kylo Ren, making him an almost unstoppable force on the field of battle. His reflexes and telekinetic defences are immense - he is able to stop an incoming blaster bolt in midair and hold it in place for an extended period of time before releasing it. He is also a master of telepathic intrusion, using the ability to coerce or torment his prisoners into revealing secret information.

Kylo Ren's unusual lightsaber is an ancient design, dating back thousands of years to the Great Scourge of Malachor. The crossguard blades, or quillons, are tributaries of the primary central blade, all spawning from a cracked kyber crystal that is the cause of their ragged, unstable appearance. An array of focusing crystal activators split the plasma stream into perpendicular blade energy channels, creating the quillons. The emitter shrouds on the crossguard protects the bearer's hand from the smaller blades.

This is my second-part action figure review of the Hot Toys MMS320 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale Kylo Ren Collectible Figure which comes with Kylo Ren's unique lightsaber and a LED-light up lightsaber right arm (batteries included). The light-up arm allows for the lightsaber to be lighted up in a bright red glow which can be best seen and captured when the figure is placed in a darker background - see the pictures below. Hot Toys also included five extra interchangeable gloved hands, including a gesturing left palm which can be used to show Kylo Ren using the Force.

Kylo Ren's outfit / costume consists of a black basket weave pattern top coat, a black mid coat with accordion sleeves, black short under-tunic, black long under-tunic, pair of black pants, black belt and black boots. He wore a mask and helmet that altered his voice and adds to his imposing demeanour.

Close-up picture of Kylo Ren's weathered boots

A close-up view of Kylo Ren's lightsaber. Though Kylo's weapon evokes an ancient feel, its components are modern. Its crude appearance suggests construction by an inexperienced hand. The stressed crystal barely contains the power of the weapon, necessitating lateral plasma vents that become the crossguard quillons.

In the picture below, the lightsaber is lighted up but the effect is not so obvious. The next few pictures show off the lighted plasma blades better. The effect is nice and I'm really glad that we finally have a 1:6 scale lighted lightsaber!

continued from previous toy blog post...

After my action figure review of Hot Toys MMS320 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale Kylo Ren Collectible Figure (posted HERE and HERE), I thought it'll be interesting to show comparison pictures of Hot Toys Kylo Ren with Sideshow Collectibles Deluxe Darth Vader figure and other Sith Lords, including Darth Maul, Darth Tyranus and Asajj Ventress.

But even before that, how about a picture of Hot Toys Kylo Ren kneeling before Sideshow Collectibles "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" 30th anniversary Darth Vader Deluxe Sixth Scale Figure (reviewed HERE and HERE) who happens to be his grandfather. Though trained by his uncle Luke Skywalker as a Jedi, Kylo has been seduced to the dark side of the Force, and aspires to be as powerful as his grandfather, the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Believing himself capable of communicating with his deceased grandfather, Ren implored the spirit of Vader to "Show me again the power of the darkness, and I'll let nothing stand in our way. Show me, grandfather, and I will finish what you started.”

Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian praised the character and the actor alike, saying, "He is gorgeously cruel, spiteful and capricious – and unlike the Vader of old, he is given to petulant temper tantrums, with his lightsaber drawn." Adam Driver said in December 2015 that, despite the visual similarities to Darth Vader, there's a recklessness about Kylo Ren that's not normally associated with the Dark Side. You normally think of order, and structure, and full commitment and no hesitation ... he's just a little bit more unpolished. It’s in his costume, in his lightsaber — how you kind of get the sense that it could just not work at any moment; that it could just blow up.

Here's Sideshow Collectibles "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" 30th anniversary Darth Vader Deluxe Sixth Scale Figure (on the left) standing beside Hot Toys MMS320 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale Kylo Ren Collectible Figure (on the right). 1:6 scale Darth Vader is 13.75 inches (or 35cm) tall whereas 1:6 scale Kylo Ren is 33cm tall.

I really like the Sideshow Collectibles "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" 30th anniversary Darth Vader Deluxe Sixth Scale Figure and didn't feel the need to get the Hot Toys Episode IV version which is without Anakin Skywalker's head sculpt, unlike the Sideshow version - check out the action figure reviews HERE and HERE plus comparison pictures HERE.

Another picture of Kylo Ren which I have already covered in my earlier posts

Here's Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 scale Darth Maul 12-inch figure beside Kylo Ren. Darth Maul is only 29cm tall. At the time the figure was released, almost all 12-inch figures were about 29cm tall and you don't get a lot of height differences in figures. It was cheaper to make one body and plonk a different head onto it. No one really cared about making the height of the figure to fit the actor who played the character until recent times. By the way, Ray Park who played Darth Maul wasn't really a tall man by Hollywood standards. He's 1.78m and Liam Neeson who battled him is 1.93m.

This is Hasbro's 1:6 scale Sir Christopher Lee as Count Dooku aka Darth Tyranus 29cm tall figure standing beside Kylo Ren.

And this is Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 scale Asajj Ventress 29cm tall figure standing with Kylo Ren. Found by Sidious's apprentice Count Dooku on the harsh world of Rattatak, Ventress is recruited into the service of the Sith after she proves herself worthy of their attention. She is presented with twin curved-hilt lightsabers by Darth Tyranus.

Last but not least, here's a look at Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 scale Anakin Skywalker Sith Apprentice 31cm tall figure. The 2006 San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive version of the Anakin Skywalker figure reveals Anakin at his most malevolent, with pale skin and fiery Sith eyes. The figure included an all-new lava droid base, so that you can reenact the famous duel on Mustafar.

The picture below puts Sideshow Collectibles 1:6 scale Anakin Skywalker Sith Apprentice 31cm tall figure beside Sideshow Collectibles "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" 30th anniversary Darth Vader Deluxe Sixth Scale Figure which is 35cm tall.

Another look at Anakin Skywalker Sith Apprentice. More pictures HERE

An assassin trained in the ways of the dark side by Count Dooku, Asajj Ventress yearned to be considered a true Sith, but such status wasn't allowed under the Sith's Rule of Two. Ventress fought with twin red-bladed lightsabers, and clashed with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker many times. Check out the action figure review posted HERE.

Hasbro released 1:6 scale Christopher Lee as Count Dooku / Darth Tyranus 12-inch figure from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. In the film, Lee is former Jedi Master who falls to the dark side of the Force and becomes Darth Sidious's second apprentice. You can see more pictures of the figure HERE

A deadly, agile Sith Lord trained by the evil Darth Sidious, Darth Maul was a formidable warrior and scheming mastermind. He wielded an intimidating double-bladed lightsaber and fought with a menacing ferocity. Darth Maul was physically portrayed by martial artist/author Ray Park in The Phantom Menace and he really made Darth Maul look cool as the villain in Episode 1. IGN named Darth Maul the 16th greatest Star Wars character, noting, "Of the countless characters to walk in and out of the Star Wars saga, none looks or acts more badass than Darth Maul."

You can see more pictures of Sideshow Collectibles 1/6th scale Darth Maul HERE. There's also the very cool Hasbro produced 1:6 scale Sith Speeder with Darth Maul figure and his probe droids by Sideshow - pictures HERE.

And finally, a group picture of the various Sith Lords standing together with Kylo Ren, the newest addition to the villains of the Star Wars films. Click on the picture for a bigger and better view :)

In the same ranks as BATMAN and SUPERMAN, WONDER WOMAN is one of the Big Three of DC Comics, and she’s the world’s first and strongest female super hero.

Square Enix has released pictures of their Play Arts Kai "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" Wonder Woman 10-inch tall action figure. Combining both beauty and strength, this action figure is a powerful representation of WONDER WOMAN. Many dynamic action poses are possible thanks to the utilization of a flexible material for her hair and skirt. The careful paintwork on her face accentuates her dignified yet delicate facial features. Accessories include: her signature magic lasso; a sword that can be stowed on a loop in her belt; and her circular shield. This action figure condenses WONDER WOMAN's appeal into one compact package. Figure also includes display stand and interchangeable hand parts.

We are finally seeing more and more pictures of WONDER WOMAN action figures from the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" film after being bombarded by lots and lots of Supeman, Batman and Armored Batman. Besides the highly anticipated reveal of this Square Enix Play Arts Kai "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" Wonder Woman 10-inch figure, there was also the Medicom MAFEX Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Wonder Woman action figure (previewed on my toy blog HERE) and Mattel Barbie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" Wonder Woman (pictures HERE). Blackbox Toys 1/6th scale Guess Me Series 12" figure - isn't that Daniel Craig James Bond 007?

Daniel Craig achieved international fame when chosen as the sixth actor to play the role of Ian Fleming's James Bond in the official film series, taking over from Pierce Brosnan in 2005. Although his casting was initially greeted with scepticism, his debut was highly acclaimed and earned him a BAFTA award nomination, with Casino Royale becoming the highest-grossing in the series at the time. Quantum of Solace followed two years later.

Craig's third Bond film, Skyfall, premiered in 2012 and is currently the highest-grossing film in the series, as well as the highest-grossing film in the UK and the twelfth-highest-grossing film of all time. Craig's fourth Bond film (the twenty-fourth James Bond film produced by Eon Productions), Spectre, premiered in 2015.

Blackbox Toys 1/6th scale Guess Me Series (BB-9002 Set A/B) seems to be a nod to Daniel Craig's role as James Bond. It features: 1/6th scale “James” head sculpt, 12-inch figure body with hands, gun holding hands, double breasted wool overcoat (Black), TF men dress suit (Set-A Navy blue/ Set-B Gray), Suit trousers (Set-A Navy blue/ Set-B Gray), Tie (Set-A Navy blue/ Set-B Gray), Long sleeve dress shirt (WHITE), Pocket handkerchief (WHITE), Seamaster watch, Camberley double monk boots. Weapon: PPK pistol, PPK pistol with bio-grip, Silencer (short), silencer (long), LRC-2 conversion kit with Strike One pistol, aiming laser sight, MBUS II folding front & back sight, FGGK folding foregrip, Elastic carrying sling (BLK)

Review 1: Hot Toys Star Wars TFA 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure

$

This Hot Toys MMS321 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure was from my February 2016 toy haul (posted on my toy blog HERE)

The latest generation of cold weather assault stormtroopers, snowtroopers wore advanced insulated armor and helmets that reduced the glare of icy terrain. First Order stormtroopers assigned to frigid planets such as Starkiller Base wear specialized armor and gear that let them operate effectively in icy conditions. Snowtroopers carry a backpack-style personal environment unit and wear insulated helmets with glare-reducing slit lenses, gloves, a kama, and a heat-resistant body glove beneath an oversuit of wind-resistant fabric. Snowtrooper teams scouted the planet that now houses Starkiller Base, eliminating native life forms that posed a potential threat.

We didn't get to see a lot of the First Order Snowtroopers on the big screen but I think they'll be in the deleted scenes segment of the DVD when it is released. There were scenes and screen grabs of snowtroopers inside the Millennium Falcon as well as those of Rey and Finn battling snowtroopers on Starkiller Base so they must have not survived the final cut in the editing room.

This is the recently released Hot Toys MMS321 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure and upon putting the figure together, I realized that there's something not quite right with the figure. The blaster rifle he comes with is a tad too big. In the film and source materials, the First Order Snowtroopers and Stormtroopers carry standard stormtrooper weaponry which is the Sonn-Blas F-11D Blaster Rifle so how is it that this Snowtrooper's rifle is way bigger than the Stormtrooper's version. Check out pictures below in this toy blog post where I posted side-by-side picture comparisons.

Scroll down to see all the pictures.

As with all Star Wars packaging, the box is mainly black with a picture of the figure on the front cover / lid and Hot Toys follows that up with an inner flap showing the figure in a more colorful background. Removing the flap gives you access to the main tray which holds the 12-inch figure and its 1/6th scale accessories (see the next picture below)

Instructions are pretty straightforward - don't try to remove any of the armor or you'll damage the figure and how to put on the backpack / personal environment unit

First, a picture of the Hot Toys MMS321 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure (comes with relaxed palms / gloved hands) just out of the box and without the personal environment unit

Accessories include: First Order emblem hexagonal figure stand with First Order Snowtrooper nameplate and Star Wars logo, First Order Snowtrooper backpack (personal environment unit), extra gloved hands - two fists, two trigger hands and a open left palm, a blaster rifle with extendable stock

Check out the size comparison pictures below showing the Hot Toys 1:6 scale First Order Snowtrooper blaster rifle with extendable stock (top of picture) with the First Order Stormtrooper blaster rifle. Both are supposed to be the Sonn-Blas F-11D Blaster Rifles, only difference being that one has an extendable stock while the other just has the blaster gas valve cap. They are both identical and interchangebale but the Hot Toys 1:6 scale First Order Snowtrooper blaster rifle with extendable stock looks way bigger in size.

Also, as with the earlier Stormtrooper E-11 blaster rifle from Star Wars Episodes IV to VI, the collapsible steadying grip or rifle stock of the Sonn-Blas F-11D Blaster Rifle can be extended as shown in the picture below. However, this doesn't work as the rifle with the extendable stock now has two rifle stocks. This is not Hot Toys fault but a design flaw made at the source. The size discrepancy is a sticking point though.

Check out the turnaround views of Hot Toys MMS321 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure with (oversized) Sonn-Blas F-11D Blaster Rifle. His costume / outfit consists of: newly designed First Order Snowtrooper helmet and armor, white long coat, white under-suit, belt with pouches, pair of white pants, pair of white boots with greaves and securing black straps, and backpack (personal environment unit). Underneath the costume / outfit is an approximately 30 cm tall TrueType body with over 30 points of articulations.

At first glance, it appears that the First Order Snowtrooper has two slits on his helmet

On closer inspection, there is just one polarised slit visor to minimise ice glare under the betaplast helmet with flared neck shroud. There is a black brow line above the slit visor. Two breather tank inlets on the helmet allow for emergency gas transfer when required.

Check out the close-up pictures of Hot Toys MMS321 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure, including the body armor with unit insignia and suit heater controls

Kotobukiya Marvel Now! X-Men 1/10th scale Wolverine ARTFX+ 7.5 inches tall Statue

Kotobukiya’s series of Marvel Comics ARTFX+ Statues continues with the latest mutant hero in the Marvel Now lineup that has been taking the world by storm. In 2012 the comic book company relaunched several titles, shifting some characters into different books and updating some for a modern audience. More than anything, it provided a perfect jumping on point for new readers. Now the characters are brought to life as never before based on concept artwork by superstar artist Adi Granov, who was also responsible for the preceding Avengers series. Completing the X-Men lineup and joining previously released Cyclops, Emma Frost, Magneto, Magik, Beast, and Rogue is fan favorite WOLVERINE!

A nearly immortal mutant with a powerful healing factor and heightened senses, Wolverine was further enhanced by an adamantium-laced skeleton and ultra-sharp claws. Throughout his years with the X-Men (and other teams) he’s worn several different costumes, and this new version is the ARTFX+ debut of his unique Marvel Now outfit consisting of a tough, combat-ready uniform. It’s a full bodysuit revealing only the lower part of his face, though of course his claws protrude through it as well. Wolverine is captured in mid-lunge, stepping forward with his right leg as he jabs his left hand for a lethal strike. The stark black and yellow armor sections of his costume make a cool “X” out of negative space, and it includes his trademark pointed cowl. Logan’s face is contorted into a fierce snarl as he attacks his enemies, and he looks super cool with his eyes covered by the pure white lenses of his costume.

The open world design lets players freely roam Chicago, which includes the urban city, suburbs, open countryside, and the run-down neighborhoods that surround downtown.

Players control Aiden Pearce, a highly skilled grey hat hacker who can hack into the "ctOS", a centralized operating system which manages the hyper-connected city of Chicago, and formed after the Northeast blackout of 2003 was caused by a hacker. After a hacking job gone wrong, a hit is sent out on Aiden. I had no idea Gerard Butler was playing the part of Aiden Pearce in the game LOL maybe it's the company's way of trying to get Butler to play the part on the big screen. It worked for Marvel - they created a Nick Fury character based solely on Samuel L Jackson's likeness in the Ultimates universe and when they made the Marvel films, guess who played Nick Fury himself? Not David Hasselhoff although he did play the man in the 1998 American television film "Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." based on the Marvel Comics character. Not kidding.

"Every time I put on that suit, it’s my chance to help people who are in trouble. I guess on a personal level, it’s my chance to look like a worthwhile human being again. In my eyes… no one else’s. It’s what I want, Bruce.."

Sideshow and Prime 1 Studio are proud to present the Batman Beyond Polystone Statue from the Batman: Arkham Knight. Inspired by the suit of the Batman of the future, Terry McGinnis, from the show Batman: Beyond. Terry was confirmed to take over as Batman after an elderly Bruce Wayne, who is his mentor in this continuity.

Batman Beyond (also known as Batman of the Future) is an American animated television series developed by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett and produced by Warner Bros. Animation in collaboration with DC Comics as a continuation of the Batman legacy. Depicting a teenaged Batman in a futuristic Gotham City under the tutelage of an elderly Bruce Wayne, the series began airing on January 10, 1999, and ended its run on December 18, 2001.

Batman Beyond is said to explore the darker side of many Batman projects, playing on key elements such as emotions, personal relations, fear of the unknown, to cyberpunk and sci-fi themed elements such as issues and dilemmas of innovation and technological and scientific progress affecting society, and to the disturbing psychological elements of the character of Bruce Wayne. It is also the first Batman series to portray the hero as a teenager. So how come this Prime 1 Studio DC Comics Collectibles Batman Beyond looks so much like a beefed up bulky adult hunk aka Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in Batman costume?

continued from previous toy blog post...

Do I love the design of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens First Order Snowtroopers? Absolutely! Do I like this Hot Toys MMS321 Star Wars Episode VII TFA 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure? YES! All the troopers of the First Order, from the revamped and re-designed new look Stormtroopers (Hot Toys 1:6 scale version posted HERE and HERE), TIE fighter pilot collectible figure (reviewed HERE and HERE), to this Snowtrooper, they all look magnificent and really cool. The redesigns are beautiful and these 1:6 scale versions by Hot Toys are stunning and really top notch in look and quality. I'm really glad I got them. I can't wait to add the Flametrooper and the baton-wielding First Order Riot Control Stormtrooper (FN-2199 aka TR-8R but his friends call him “Nines”) to the mix.

So I've taken more pictures of this Hot Toys MMS321 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure and posted them here for your viewing pleasure :) The craftsmanship of these First Order troopers (all of them!) are right up there in terms of quality and finish. They are very well produced and look really good up close. I am blown away by the attention to detail and all the neat little touches Hot Toys has put into producing these figures. They are really awesome to behold. So how come there aren't any rebel soldiers to do battle with these guys? The only rebels fighting the First Order in the film are the pilots flying the X-Wing fighters.

Behind the scenes trivia:
In the costumes used for the film, the snowtroopers' armor, helmet and backpack were made of molded polyurethane, while their gloves also included molded polyurethane elements along with nylon. Their quilted tunics and collars were made from jersey-backed neoprene, though the tunics also included polyester and cotton. The nylon boots they wore were "Kamik White Mens Canuck Cold Weather Boots.

Description from Wookiepedia:
First Order stormtroopers assigned to frigid planets such as Starkiller Base wear specialized armor and gear that let them operate effectively in icy conditions. Snowtroopers carry a backpack-style personal environment unit and wear insulated helmets with glare-reducing slit lenses, gloves, a kama, and a heat-resistant body glove beneath an oversuit of wind-resistant fabric.

Hot Toys description of the outfit:
The costume consists of newly designed First Order Snowtrooper helmet and armor, white long coat, white under-suit, belt with pouches, pair of white pants, pair of white boots with greaves and securing black straps, and backpack (personal environment unit). Underneath the costume / outfit is an approximately 30 cm tall TrueType body with over 30 points of articulations.

We have established that the 1:6 scale Sonn-Blas F-11D Blaster Rifle included with this Hot Toys First Order Snowtrooper is bigger in size than that the earlier blaster rifle that came with the First Order Stormtrooper. You can see the comparison pictures posted on my earlier action figure review post HERE. I also included pictures of the film version Snowtrooper and Stormtrooper with the same rifle to give you an idea of the size of the weapon so that you may compare it with Hot Toys 1:6 scale version.

Check out the close-up pictures of this Hot Toys MMS321 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure. What can I say? It's a stunning figure and you can't get this amount of details in anything smaller than 1:6 scale.

NEXT: Comparison pictures of Hot Toys MMS321 Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale First Order Snowtrooper 12-inch collectible figure with the Sideshow Collectibles 1/6th scale Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back Snowtrooper figure.

Sandman (William Baker a.k.a. Flint Marko) is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. A shapeshifter endowed through an accident with the ability to turn himself into sand, he began as a villain and later became an ally of Spider-Man. The character has been adapted into various other media incarnations of Spider-Man, including animated cartoons and the 2007 film Spider-Man 3, in which he is portrayed by Thomas Haden Church.

The Sandman first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #4 (Sept. 1963), created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko as an adversary of Spider-Man.[2] The character returned in The Amazing Spider-Man #18 and #19, and was soon depicted in other comics, such as battling Hulk and the Fantastic Four.

XM Studios is excited to present their next Marvel Premium Collectibles series statue, Sandman! The manipulator of Sand and a member of the Sinister Six is immortalized in amazingly detailed 1:4 scale cold-cast porcelain. Each painstakingly handcrafted statue stands at approximately 75 cm tall and every piece individually hand-painted with the highest possible quality finish.
