Preview PIRP 1/6 scale Catwoman Custome set - evening dress, maid uniform & prison garb

PIRP has released pictures of their 1/6 scale Catwoman Custome set consisting of evening dress, maid uniform & prison garb - all tailored for 12-inch Catwoman figure :)

In "The Dark Knight Rises" film directed by Christopher Nolan, Anne Hathaway plays Selina Kyle, a cat burglar described as "an associate" of Bane who establishes a relationship with Batman that "takes some of the somberness away from his character."

Kyle is pursuing a "clean slate", a computer program rumoured to be able to erase a person's criminal history, when she crosses paths with Bruce Wayne. Hathaway auditioned not knowing what role she was being considered for, admitting that she had one character in mind, but only learned that the role was Selina Kyle after talking with Christopher Nolan for an hour. Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle goes from maid uniform to evening dress and also prison garb, among the many "costumes" she wears throughout the movie.

Anne Hathaway described the role as being the most physically demanding she had ever played, and confessed that while she thought of herself as being fit she had to redouble her efforts in the gym to keep up with the demands of the role. Hathaway worked out five days a week for the role, including rigorous exercise and stunt training followed by an hour and a half of dance.

She explained, "I've always thought that skinny was the goal, but with this job I also have to be strong." Hathaway trained extensively in martial arts for the role, and looked to Hedy Lamarr—who was the inspiration for the Catwoman character—in developing her performance.

The enigmatic man is here.

The 15th ACGHK is less than 24 hours away and the special edition of the following collectible figure is only available for pre-order during the event for fans in Hong Kong!

Based on the book of the same name by James O’Barr, The Crow’s story follows Eric Draven, portrayed by Brandon Lee - son of the legendary Bruce Lee, who is revived from the dead to avenge his own murder as well as that of his fiancée by a gang of thugs. Hot Toys is proud to present the 1/6th scale Eric Draven Collectible Figure from this visually stunning and critically successful film.

Brandon Lee was accidentally killed during filming, and The Crow was consequentially his last film. Unfinished scenes that were to feature Lee were dealt with by rewrites and digital special effects, allowing for the film to be finished. The Crow was dedicated to Lee and his fiancée, Eliza. The movie-accurate collectible is specially crafted based on the image of Brandon Lee as Eric Draven in the movie. It features newly developed head sculpt, highly detailed outfit, accessories and figure stand.

Lee's death was alleged to have a melancholy effect on viewers; Desson Howe of The Washington Post wrote that Lee "haunts every frame" and James Berardinelli called the film "a case of 'art imitating death', and that specter will always hang over The Crow". (source: wiki)

The film was widely compared to other films, particularly Tim Burton's Batman movies and Blade Runner. Critics described The Crow as a darker film than the others; Ebert called it a grungier and more forbidding story than those of Batman and Blade Runner, and Todd McCarthy of Variety wrote that the generic inner city of Detroit portrayed in The Crow "makes Gotham City look like the Emerald City".

For fans in Hong Kong, the special edition is only available for pre-order at 15th ACGHK and will include one (1) weather vane as bonus accessory. (This special edition is for selected markets only.)

continued from previous post...

This is the 1/6 scale articulated Timber from Sideshow Collectibles G.I. Joe 12-inch Snake Eyes And 1/6 scale Timber Figure Set (previewed HERE).

According to Sideshow Collectibles, Timber is Fully Posable with 12 points of articulation. I really don't think that you can pose him very much :( Unlike a 12-inch human figure which can be fully pose-able if it's not restricted by the clothing or armor that is put on him, Timber is pretty much set in this pose and even though you can move his legs to achieve some running poses, I doubt you can make him sit and fetch or roll over like a real dog would ;p That said, I just like me a 1/6 scale wolf!

Timber comes with movable joints and its body is in three parts so that you are able to pose it. 1/6 scale Timber wolf is sculpted very well but he's also very heavy. How heavy? He's heavy like a brick which is odd because normally everything else in 1/6 scale that is not a statue doesn't weigh this much. He's heavier than most (if not all) of my 12-inch figures.

Because of Timber's heavy weight, it puts a lot of pressure on the joints and makes it very difficult for him to stand, let alone be posed in any other way.

What attracted me to Timber was the sculpting. It's a very good sculpt in itself though adding the movable joints to make it pose-able was a tad ambitious.

What I didn't expect was the heavy weight of this 1/6 scale canine. It's still a nice creature figure :)

One day I'm going to put all the 1/6 scale animals together for a group shot. That should be interesting ;p Check out other critters/creatures in my collection HERE ;p

Happy to report that my Batman Collection photo got published in Discovery Channel Magazine :)

Benefits and privileges of blogging :)

Some weeks ago, someone from Discovery Channel magazine contacted me and asked me for a high resolution photograph of my Batman collection which she had seen on my toy blog that I had taken some years back. She said she wanted to publish it in the Discovery Channel magazine. So it was quite a nice surprise to receive the magazine in the mailbox today with the picture of my Batman collection in it as part of an article titled "Toy Story". I've scanned the pages in their entirety and have posted the pictures / pages here in my toy blog for those of us who can't get hold of the magazine. It does make for quite an interesting read and I think most of us will enjoy it :) Click on the pictures for a bigger and better view, especially if you want to read the text.

Some of the text:
CAUTION: ADULTS AT PLAY - As borders blur between young and old, more grown-ups now find that the pleasures of youth aren't necessarily just for the young anymore (written by Eric Talmadge of Discovery Channel magazine). Scroll down to read more.

Youth, they say, is wasted on the young. Who hasn't looked back on their younger days and wished they could somehow experience once again the pleasures of play. The sheer enjoyment of winning a game, no matter how silly or pointless the game might be. The thrill of having a box full of TOYS, or a collection of marbles, and the joy of sharing and comparing these prized possessions with their friends. Whatever happened to these simple pleasures? Could we ever feel that way again?

Time to grow up? Not so fast! Researchers are finding that one answer to the eternal question of how to stay happy longer lies in rediscovering the very things we took the most joy in as children. Forget about the Peter Pan Syndrome, these researchers say. As such, for millions of people throughout the world, toys and games are just what the doctor ordered.

And here's why my humble Batman collection got featured :)
Rise of the Fans: Collector Alex Teo, alias Toy Haven, tells DCM he has turned his Singapore home into a mini toy museum, with his collection proudly displayed throughout the house.

To give you an idea of the size of Alex Teo's collection, the selection of Batman collectibles pictured comprises less than five percent (5%) of the items he has displayed in his home.

The article goes on to say that "Toys, games and nerdy collections are officially okay, and no longer just for kids. The time has come for you to get your vinyl, comics and Wii on."

Yuji Ueda, who produced a 2013 documentary "Tokyo Toy Guy" visited six cities to feature some of the world's top Batman memorabilia collectors says it best:"At some point, every kid in the world has played with a toy. What really counts is merely experiencing the joy of a toy. It's the natural, childlike pleasure you get from something."

Recently I came across this definition someone shared on Facebook on the two kinds of model kit and figure collectors (based on attitude):

The Happy and Passionate Collectors who really enjoy the hobby. They enjoy buying the stuff because of the happiness it brings to own them. Often times they are eager to share their knowledge and experiences to co-collectors who are most likely walking down the same path. Seeing other collectors finally getting the stuff they were looking for makes them happy. They are sincere and very open-minded individuals who love to share a laugh :)

Then there are the Competitive and Too Proud collectors who think collecting is a contest. They love to look down on others who cannot afford the hobby, as if they are not on their level. They do not really love the hobby, but they only love the attention the hobby gives them. They cannot take criticism lightly and talking with them might end up in an argument especially if the topic is against their beliefs. Sharing is mainly bragging rights for them. They would not even share info or tips to help collectors. If you meet them personally, they don't usually have a friendly aura. They love to make jokes at the expense of others.

Sadly I've come across both kinds. Some of the latter (ugly collectors) seem to be the new generation Hot Toys collectors who only buy Hot Toys, think highly of themselves and their Hot Toys collection and have no interests in any other collection of toys, unless it's Hot Toys! They give a bad name to toy collectors because they don't seem to enjoy the toy. They are just out to show off that they have the means (money) to buy the toy and multiples of the same Hot Toy if it's an exclusive and they will flaunt it in your face so that they can brag about how many very limited edition Hot Toys figure they have! They do not even open the box to appreciate the toy. It stays sealed the day they got it because they want it MISB (Mint In Sealed Box)! It's different from carded and clam shell figures because for those, you can still see the figure inside the packaging. One cannot see a Hot Toys figure in its sealed box unless one opens the box to examine and appreciate the figure and its intricate details. Where's the joy? I pity them.

Happy collecting guys and gals :) Don't give in to the dark side of toy collecting.

Kitbash "X-Men: The Last Stand" 1/6 scale Wolverine Limited Edition 12-inch Action Figure

A most unexpected surprise find at the flea market on Sunday :)

First I saw what looked like a Hot Toys MMS187 "X-Men: The Last Stand" 1/6 scale Wolverine head sculpt and wondered what I could do with it. Then I came across a loose "X-Men: The Last Stand" 1/6 scale Wolverine costume / outfit with claw hands but no head sculpt at another stall. So I bought both items for SGD $100, brought the items home and this is the outcome. Not bad for something that costs less than USD100 right?

I'm not sure if the 1/6 scale Hugh Jackman as Wolverine head sculpt is authentic Hot Toys Wolverine or a re-cast but it looks really good. I didn't get the Hot Toys MMS187 "X-Men: The Last Stand" 1/6 scale Wolverine Limited Edition 12-inch Collectible Figure (see pictures HERE) because I didn't like the way Hot Toys kept increasing their prices and decided to make a stand (pun intended). I always say "Not happy, don't buy" so I didn't. In the end, paying less than USD100 for a "X-Men: The Last Stand" Wolverine 12-inch figure is just too good to resist and I am most happy with the end result. Scroll down to see more pictures \(^o ^)/

To be honest, I also don't know the origins of this 1/6 scale X-Men Wolverine costume. I know it's not by Hot Toys and not by Medicom Toys either (see the Medicom Wolverine pictures HERE). I even looked up Marvel Studios 12-inch Wolverine figure and this doesn't look like it either. Whatever the case, I'm pretty pleased with it as it also came with the Wolverine claws for the complete look.

Since Hugh Jackman's debut and first appearance as Wolverine in 2000, he has continually played the role for the last 13 years, with his latest turn in "The Wolverine" which has just been released in cinemas and movie theaters worldwide. He has played the role most convincingly even though he is actually too tall to be Wolverine as the character in the Marvel comics was really short. You can bet Hugh Jackman will be back as Wolverine in "X-Men: Days of Future Past"

Wolverine is a mutant with a number of both natural and artificial improvements to his physiology. His primary mutant power is an accelerated healing process, typically referred to as his mutant healing factor, that regenerates damaged or destroyed tissues of his body far beyond the capabilities of an ordinary human. This power facilitated the artificial improvements he was subjected to under the Weapon X program (in later comics called the Weapon Plus program), in which his skeleton was reinforced with the virtually indestructible metal adamantium.

Wolverine's mutation also consists of animal-like adaptations of his body, including pronounced, and sharp fang-like canines and three retractable claws housed within each forearm. While originally depicted as bionic implants created by the Weapon X program, the claws are later revealed to be a natural part of his body.

Wolverine's hands do not have openings for the claws to move through: they cut through his flesh every time he extrudes them, with occasional references implying that he feels a brief moment of slight pain in his hands when he unsheathes them.

Although his body heals, the healing factor does not suppress the pain he endures while injured. Wolverine's healing factor also affects a number of his physical attributes by increasing them to superhuman levels. His stamina is sufficiently heightened to the point he can exert himself for numerous hours, even after exposure to powerful tranquilizers.

Wolverine's senses of sight, smell, and hearing are all superhumanly acute. He can see with perfect clarity at greater distances than an ordinary human, even in near-total darkness. His hearing is enhanced in a similar manner, allowing him to both hear sounds ordinary humans cannot and also hear to greater distances. Wolverine is able to use his sense of smell to track targets by scent, even if the scent has been eroded somewhat over time by natural factors.

Here's a closer look at the 1/6 scale Hugh Jackman as Wolverine head sculpt as seen in "X-Men: The Last Stand". The quality of the head sculpts (including the paint work) has improved tremendously ot the point where they are now very life-like and realistic looking. Sometimes one can't tell if they are looking at a photograph of the actor / actual person or collectible toy figure

During his time in Japan and other countries, Wolverine becomes a master of virtually all forms of martial arts and is experienced in virtually every fighting style on Earth. He is proficient with most weaponry, including firearms, though he is partial to bladed weapons. He is also an accomplished pilot and highly skilled in the field of espionage and covert operations.

Wolverine will sometimes lapse into a "berserker rage" while in close combat. In this state he lashes out with the intensity and aggression of an enraged animal and is even more resistant to psionic attack. Despite his apparent ease at taking lives, he does not enjoy killing or giving in to his berserker rages. Logan adheres to a firm code of personal honor and morality.

Wolverine is frequently depicted as a gruff loner, often taking leave from the X-Men to deal with personal issues or problems. He is often irreverent and rebellious towards authority figures, though he is a reliable ally and capable leader.

Wolverine is one of the very few X-Men characters to be included in every media adaptation of the X-Men franchise, including film, television, and computer and video games, and he has also starred in his own video games (e.g. X2: Wolverine's Revenge and X-Men Origins: Wolverine).

303 TOYS 1/6 scale China series 12-inch Soldier with Spear figure - time to build a Chinese army

The term "grunt" is used in the military as a general term for someone who's MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) is "Infantry". In the Marine Corps all MOS' preceeded by the number "03" are Infantry. About as "grunt" as you can get in the Corps is "0311 - Basic Rifleman" (but they prefer the term "Jarhead"). In recent times, Grunt is used to refer to an Army soldier of the combat arms branches, being Infantry ("Grunt"), Armor ("Tanker"), and Cavalry Scout ("Girl Scout") although it is still understood to mean the Army in general. It's slang for "An infantryman in the U.S. military, especially in the Vietnam War: 'They were called grunts....They were the infantrymen, the foot soldiers of the war' (Bernard Edelman)".

Every army needs its grunts. The Chinese Army is no different. Without the grunts, a General is just a man in a uniform with a lot of stars and no bloody use unless he has an army to command and send to battle / war.

This is the upcoming 303 TOYS 1/6 scale China series 12-inch Soldier with Spear figure and he will come wit 1/6 scale Head sculpt, 12-inch figure Body, four interchangeable Hands, Clothes / uniform, Pants, Shoes, Belt, Spear, Armor and Helmet

Guess who's back in 1/6 scale?

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is a 1994 American comedy/detective film directed by Tom Shadyac and starring Jim Carrey. The film did well at the box office, grossing $107 million worldwide with a budget of $15 million. A sequel was made, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, as well as an animated series, which lasted three seasons. The film has a large cult following.

Well, for those who want to get their hands on a 12-inch Ace Ventura (Jim Carrey) private investigator figure, one who specializes in retrieval of tame or captive animals, here's your second chance. This is version 2.0. Version 1 was previewed back in 2011 (pictures HERE) and has since been sold out

A line from the film - "He's the best there is! (Actually, he's the only one there is)"

While the sculpt looks a bit on the caricature side, you can tell immediately that it's Jim Carrey

It looks like all the 1/6 scale animals come with the display stand. Animals don't appear to be pose-able or articulated though but at least it goes with the theme ;p

This is a first-part review of HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure. When you read the title "A Cop Never Dies", immediately a certain movie character comes to mind. You instantly think of Bruce Willis' John McClane's character from the Die Hard film series, where he is known for more action, little talk, sardonic yet wisecracking single-liners, quick quips, and the famous catch-phrase "Yippee-ki-yay, motherf#@^er".

HPC Toys first project Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A cop never dies" comes with: Newly sculpted 1/6 scale realistic head sculpt, Narrow shoulder muscle PVC and ABS body (12-inch figure), two Extra hands (4 hands in Total), A black pistol, A navy blue jacket, A white and blue plaid shirt, A white t-shirt / vest, Brown pants, A Leather-like bag, Black leather shoes and A movie-like background attached with the figure box. It is limited to 500 pieces worldwide. Better get yours while you still can because this is a very good product and I highly recommend it to everyone who collects 12-inch figures. For purchasing the figure the best way is to buy it from HPC Toys directly on FB (link HERE). Scroll down to see all the pictures. This is a GREAT figure and product from HPC Toys.

The box packaging (pictured above) is simple and clean: all black with their logo and product name. Opening the cover reveals the movie-like background of a fiery explosion they have included with the packaging. GREAT for taking pictures or just to use for display purposes :)

Click on the picture for a bigger and better view :)

Inside the box packaging you'll find the figure nicely tucked inside the foam / black sponge tray which holds everything neatly together without the need to use twisty ties. Easy to remove and put back.

The 1/6 scale accessories that come with the HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure include: A navy blue jacket, A white and blue plaid shirt, a Leather-like bag, two Extra hands and a black pistol

Guess what John McClane (Bruce Willis) was wearing when he arrived in Moscow, Russia to help out his son Jack McClane as seen in the latest Die-Hard film, "A Good Day to Die Hard", the fifth installment in the Die Hard film series? Answer: A navy blue jacket, A white and blue plaid shirt, A white t-shirt / vest and Brown pants ;p

Here's HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure straight out of the box, wearing the white t-shirt / vest, brown pants and black shoes

Scroll down to see close-up pictures / images of the HPC Toys Film Series 001 "A Cop Never Dies" 1/6 scale head sculpt which bears a very good resemblance and likeness to Bruce Willis who plays John McClane in the Die Hard film series

Also check out the very well stitched and tailored 1/6 scale white vest he has on. Very NICE :)

This is the 12-inch figure body that HPC Toys has produced. It is a Narrow shoulder muscle PVC and ABS body and it is GOOD. Joints are nice and tight which allows you to pose the figure and let the figure hold the poses without toppling over.

Check out 1/6 scale John McClane's ripped body ;p not bad for an old man haha

Close-up view of the upper body (head, neck, torso and arms) of HPC Toys Narrow shoulder muscle PVC and ABS body

HPC Toys Film Series 001 "A Cop Never Dies" 1/6 scale black shoes (chair NOT included - used for posing purposes)

They are more like boots as they go up to his calves.

The boots are made of black suede leather-like material. Very well made :) Quality finish

Check out the bottom / soles of the boots. They have studs. Nice details

The 1/6 scale pistol that comes with HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure is the FIRST I've seen that has a slide release lever. Most 1/6 scale guns nowadays come with the standard removable pistol magazine and movable slide as well as hammer but this is the first 1/6 scale pistol that comes with the additional slide release lever.

Without releasing the slide release lever, you cannot move the slide backwards, just like with an actual 1:1 scale gun. That is COOL. It's certainly a nice touch on HPC Toys part.

continued from previous post...

This is HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure fully dressed with the navy blue jacket, white and blue plaid shirt and carrying the brown Leather-like bag. I had covered the box packaging and contents in the previous post with close-up pictures of the 1/6 scale realistic head sculpt that bears a very good likeness and resemblance to Bruce Willis who plays John McClane in all the Die-Hard films as well as the new Narrow shoulder muscle PVC and ABS body. You can check out HPC Toys on FB and tell them you LIKE their page HERE.

This is what John McClane (Bruce Willis) was seen wearing when he arrived in Moscow, Russia to help out his son Jack McClane as seen in the latest Die-Hard film, "A Good Day to Die Hard", the fifth installment in the Die Hard film series. One of the consistent elements of the Die-Hard films is that John McClane starts off with a set of clean clothes and by the end of the movie, he loses most of his clothes and needless to say, what remains are no longer clean ;p

So here's HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure fully dressed with the navy blue jacket, white and blue plaid shirt over white t-shirt / vest, Brown pants, Black suede leather shoes and carrying the brown Leather-like bag. He also comes with a pistol (also covered in great detail in the previous post)

The 1/6 scale clothes all fit John McClane (Bruce Willis) nicely and are well stitched / tailored.

This figure comes with two Extra hands (4 hands in Total): two pistol gripping hands (left and right), one right hand for grasping / holding his bag and a left relaxed hand / palm.

The pictures show 12-inch John McClane (Bruce Willis) holding the bag in his right hand with pistol in his left hand (Bruce Willis is left-handed and uses his left hand to fire weapons in most of the films he stars in)

In the first Die Hard movie, McClane carries a Beretta 92F as his duty weapon. In the next two, his service pistol is a Beretta 92FS, even though the NYPD has never issued the Beretta 92 for duty use. He later uses a Sig P220 as his duty gun in the fourth and 5th movies of the series. I'm not sure what type of gun / pistol HPC Toys has included with their "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure set but it's very detailed and even comes with a 1/6 scale slide release lever on the pistol (see my post HERE for the close-up pictures)

Check out the close-up shots of the 1/6 scale navy blue jacket included with this HPC Toys Film Series 001 set.

Here's a close-up view of the 1/6 scale brown leather-like bag with working zipper

Here's HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure (aka Bruce Willis as John McClane) with his navy blue jacket removed, wearing just the white and blue plaid shirt over white t-shirt / vest

When Die Hard was released in 1988 it changed the way action movies were made. Normally the star of the movie was either a muscled guy (Arnie, Sly), skilled in Martial Arts (Seagal, Norris) or both (Van Damme, Lundgren). Then Bruce Willis came, fresh of the TV-show Moonlighting in a movie depicting an everyday cop who gets caught in a terrorist takeover of an office building. He alone must try to stop the terrorists and save his wife. The result was a blockbuster movie that redefined the face of action. (source: The legacy of "Die Hard")

Action films would no longer require guys who have been working out 24/7, killing tons of 1-dimensional villains played by b-actors, while spouting one liners and not getting a scratch themselves. Now every Joe the Plumber out there could stand up against mercenaries and save the day.

Check out the close-up pictures of the white and blue plaid shirt plus Bruce Willis / John McClane 1/6 scale head sculpt

Personally, I much prefer this Bruce Willis head sculpt to the one that Hot Toys released with their G.I. Joe Retaliation Joe Colton Collectible Figure (see the preview pictures HERE)

In "A Good Day to Die Hard", Jack McClane (Jai Courtney) hands John McClane (Bruce Willis) a Remington 870 police entry shotgun with an M4-type stock, Surefire dedicated forend weaponlight and saddle shell holder in the elevator to the ballroom.

I just had to re-enact a screen grab I saw of John McClane (Bruce Willis) with a Remington 870 police entry shotgun, holding it in his left hand.

As I said before, I highly recommend getting HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure. It's definitely value-for-money with its high quality stitching and detailing :)

For purchasing the figure the best way is to buy it from HPC Toys directly on FB (link HERE).

Comparison of 1/6 Wolverines - Hot Toys, Medicom and Kitbashed X-Men Wolverine

continued from earlier post...

The new Wolverine movie opened at No. 1, but didn't do as well financially as expected. Audiences may be suffering from superhero fatigue. Still, if it makes money, they'll make a sequel. So I hear there's a new movie coming out after "The Wolverine's" successful run at the theaters. It's going to be called "Wolverines!" and will feature Wolverine clones fighting each other because that's what the audience wants LOL haha just kidding.

In that vein, I thought I'll share some group pictures of 1/6 scale Wolverine (at least the ones I have in my toy collection). Pictured below are (from left to right): Medicom Toys "X-Men: The Last Stand" Wolverine, Marvel Comics Wolverine, Kitbashed Wolverine and Hot Toys "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" 12-inch figures

This group shot / picture only happened because I was able to kitbash a "X-Men: The Last Stand" 1/6 scale Wolverine figure after finding a 1/6 scale Hugh Jackman as Wolverine head sculpt and a loose X-Men Wolverine costume / outfit that came with Wolverine's claw hands (still not sure who the manufacturer is). All these happened in my earlier post HERE. Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures including side-by-side comparison shots of Medicom Toys Wolverine next to Hot Toys Wolverine.

Pictured above is the kitbash "X-Men: The Last Stand" 1/6 scale Wolverine and the photograph below shows the Medicom Toy's Hugh Jackman Wolverine from the X-men movies (more pictures HERE)

And here are the two X-Men Wolverine 12-inch figures standing together

Here's a height and size comparison of the Medicom Toy 1/6 scale X-Men movie Wolverine with the kitbash Wolverine (NOT Hot Toys) 12-inch figure placed side by side

Side profile comparison picture of both X-Men movie Wolverine 1/6 scale action figures. Notice the differences in the superhero costume / outfit

Now we add the Medicom Toy Marvel Comics 1/6 scale Wolverine into the mix. Wolverine first appeared in 1974 but it wasn't until Chris Claremont brought the character over to join the X-Men (May 1975) did people begin to sit up and take notice.

Although this Classic Yellow Wolverine costume has been around since 1975, this particular version is the Classic Yellow II that appeared in 1992 (red belt with black X) versus the yellow buckle of 1975. You can check out the "Evolution of Wolverine: Every Costume Logan's ever worn in almost 40 years (1974 – 2013)" HERE

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine", a 2009 superhero film is a prequel to the X-Men film series, focusing on the violent past of the mutant Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and his relationship with his half-brother Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber). The plot also details Wolverine's early encounters with Major William Stryker (Danny Huston), his time with Team X, and the bonding of Wolverine's skeleton with the indestructible metal adamantium during the Weapon X program.

It opened at the top of the box office, and has grossed $179 million in the United States and Canada and over $373 million worldwide. The sequel, The Wolverine, has just been released.

The picture below shows the height and size comparison of the Medicom Toy 1/6 scale X-Men movie Wolverine with the Hot Toys "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" 12-inch figure placed side by side. You can see that Medicom's scale and size is much smaller than Hot Toys version

Here's a side profile comparison between the two Wolverine figures

Review HPC Toys Film Series 002 1/6 scale "Jail Hero" 12-inch collectible figure aka Con-Air Cage

$

Con Air is an 1997 American action-thriller film directed by Simon West and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of The Rock. It stars Nicolas Cage as ex-U.S. Army Ranger Cameron Poe, about to go home to see his daughter Casey whom he has never met after eight years in prison. Poe is arranged to be flown back home to Alabama on a C-123 known as Jailbird where he will be released on landing. Things don't go as expected and mayhem ensues.

This is HPC Toys second project: Film Series 002 1/6 scale "Jail Hero". I had posted reviews of HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure aka Die-Hard 5 Bruce Willis as John McClane HERE and HERE. Check HPC Toys out on FB and LIKE their page HERE to get updates. They deserve our support for wanting to make affordable collectible figures for us :) Needless to say, "Jail hero" must have been inspired by Nicolas Cage's character of Cameron Poe in Con Air.

HPC Toys Film Series 002 1/6 scale "Jail Hero" 12-inch collectible figure comes with the following: Newly sculpted 1/6 scale head, Narrow shoulder muscle PVC & ABS body (12-inch tall), Four Extra hands (6 hands in Total), A black pistol, A blue prison shirt, A pair of blue jeans, A white tank top, A pair of black leather shoes, A white bunny and A movie like background attached with the figure box.

The packaging is certainly interesting :) Unlike the first box packaging for John McClane (Bruce Willis) which was all black, this one has an illustration of Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage) on the box cover. Over that, a slip case has been added with rectangular cuts made to give the added dimension of cell bars over the image, giving the impression of someone (Poe) locked behind bars in a jail cell.

Once again, HPC Toys (they describe themselves as "A bunch of freaks that love 1/6 scale collectibles, decided to start their own brand. Providing various movie star figures to the collectors!") has included a movie-like background with their box. This time instead of a fiery explosion which was most appropriate for "Die-Hard", it's a scene of the Las Vegas Strip (an approximately 4.2-mile (6.8 km) stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard South in Clark County, Nevada). Why? Because in the climatic scene of "Con Air (1997)", the plane Poe is in (aptly named Jailbird) crash-lands on The Strip, destroying landmarks and ripping the plane apart, with the fuselage ending up at the lobby of the Sands Hotel.

Click on the pic for a bigger and better view :)

Inside the box packaging you'll find the figure nicely tucked inside the foam / black sponge tray which holds everything neatly together without the need to use twisty ties. Easy to remove and put back. Hassle-free packaging and I like it :)

Here's HPC Toys Film Series 002 1/6 scale "Jail Hero" 12-inch figure with open palm hands straight out of the box, wearing the white tank top, A pair of blue jeans with black belt and A pair of black leather shoes

Scroll down to see the turnaround views of HPC Toys Film Series 002 1/6 scale "Jail Hero" 12-inch collectible figure (Nicolas Cage as ex-U.S. Army Ranger Cameron Poe in "Con Air")

The pair of black leather shoes are more like boots as they go up to his calves. The boots are made of black suede leather-like material. Very well made :) Quality finish with studs at the bottom / soles. They are similar to the ones worn by HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure (see the close-up and detailed pictures of the shoes HERE)

Nicolas Cage certainly let his hair grow for this film. Not sure why. I always thought they had to keep their hair short when in jail.

Check out the close-up pictures which show off the HPC Toys 1/6 scale "Jail Hero" head sculpt. It looks pretty darn good IMHO There's no mistaking that it's Nicolas Cage all the way.

The same 12-inch figure body that HPC Toys has produced for their first figure is also used here. It is a Narrow shoulder muscle PVC and ABS body and it is GOOD. Joints are nice and tight which allows you to pose the figure and let the figure hold the poses without toppling over. But this time around, HPC Toys have painted the "chest hair" which can be seen on the first version body although it was not painted. See the pictures of the topless body HERE

1/6 scale hair has always been an issue because at this scale, it's almost impossible to make the head look realistic due to the sculpted hair. But this is definitely much preferred rather than rooted hair seen in most doll figures and on female heads. I would be devastated if rooted hair was used here LOL

Besides the basic figure, there are also the 1/6 scale accessories: A blue prison shirt with numbers 00102875 printed on it, A white bunny, Four Extra hands (pistol gripping right hand, relaxed palm and a pair of fists) and a black pistol.

Sid has commented that the 1/6 scale handgun appears to be a Browning Hi Power 9mm pistol which is identical to the one that came with HPC Toys Film Series 001 1/6 scale "A Cop Never Dies" 12-inch figure except for the different paint scheme. This is now the SECOND 1/6 scale gun I've seen that has a slide release lever which is the safety which blocks the trigger when the hammer is back. Full close-up detailed pictures HERE (showing how the slide release lever works in sequence)

Why the white bunny? In the film "Con Air", Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage) struggles to connect with his daughter Casey in an early letter-writing montage. He then packs a stuffed bunny along for his trip home, perishing the thought that he would return without a present for Casey’s birthday. His dedication to this minor symbol of fatherhood is so strong that he ends up killing a man in part for trying to take it. Similarly, in one of the film’s stranger scenes, villain Cyrus “the Virus” Grissom (John Malkovich) threatens Poe by holding a gun to the (inanimate) bunny’s head.

So yeah, Bunny here plays a big part in the film ;p

For purchasing the figure the best way is to buy it from HPC Toys directly on FB (link HERE).
